5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Live Album
Hey People, you please have to disregard the 2 star review. I'm usually not someone to diss other reviewers, but that one screams "clueless" so loud I couldn't resist. It's a LIVE Album!!! 2.0 out of 5 stars 4 songs missing
I was disappointed that 4 of the songs would not play due to scratches and whatnot. I guess you get what you pay for. Most of the cds I have purchased from them are in great shape though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Live Album, October 28, 2009
This review is from: En Concert (Audio CD)
Hey People, you please have to disregard the 2 star review. I'm usually not someone to diss other reviewers, but that one screams "clueless" so loud I couldn't resist. It's a LIVE Album!!! So of course it's well known (and beloved,by most) songs and no new material. "Sleep through the Static" is not even that old yet (Feb 08). No serious musician or band throws out a new album every year, Jack never did! And I don't think he needs something to stay in peoples head's either, unless he would be aware of the fact that the majority of his fans suffer from severe memory loss, which I believe they don't!
This Live album is great! And I think it's a good time in his career to release one! The live vibe is transported well and the dynamic of the songs is different from the studio albums through lot's of great musical interaction within the band and guest musicians! A fact that was already noticeable on the first Live DVD " A weekend at the Greek" (If anything you could argue if the time was right for another Live DVD only 4 years later, but as a fan I'd rather enjoy than scream sellout!)
Plus there is a couple cool coversongs mixed in too. So theoretically there is some "new" Jack Johnson stuff.
Keep the balance and keep it positive!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope it grabs alot of money...., October 28, 2009
This review is from: En Concert (Audio CD)
Inside the book states:
"100% of the 2008 tour profits were used to create the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation to Support Environmental, Art & Music Education around the World. Learn more at [...]"

"100% OF THE NET PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF THIS ALBUM ARE BEING DONATED TO THE JOHNSON OHANA CHARITABLE FOUNDATION AND THE KOKUA HAWAII FOUNDATION TO FURTHER SUPPORT THESE EFFORTS."

This is everything a live album that is not one complete concert but a sort of best of from the 2008 Tour should be. Nice booklet with pics from each show to sort of put you there(only bought Cd version, I'm sure the movie really gets you there too!)For me I never heard the song "Country Road" with Paula Fuga, which is a cool little duet with Jack, and she can really sing it out. Every song live has its own little differences not heard on studio versions(mad piano playing rocking). Oh yeah never heard the "Constellations" with Eddie Vedder, sounds pretty cool. This is just a really fun snapshot of Live Jack Johnson which some people haven't heard or seen and may never get to. A good mix of older and newer, and the sound is nearlly flawless just like front row!!! So chill on the recycled music stuff this is all really good music and a nice album to have especially as winter sets in. And what do you really think you're getting with a live album? The songs you want to hear on and on...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, October 30, 2009
This review is from: En Concert (Audio CD)
It's Jack Johnson, so I bought the CD. I have all his other CD's so I didn't expect too much from the live album; I've heard all these songs a million times before. But I was blown away. Jack has never sounded better than he does on this album. The songs come alive with Jack riffing on the melodies and the band jamming on the solos. My favorite: "Do You Remember." The studio version of that song (on In Between Dreams) was a folksy tune in cut time. On the live album, it is transformed into a bluesy jam. Plus, Jack tacks on a superior version of Ben Harper's "Remember." Amazing! I have that track on repeat. And listen to Jack's vocals on Paul Simon's "Mother and Child Reunion" and his own "Angel." They bring tears to my eyes. This is a must have for Jack Johnson fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars all profits from these releases go to charity!, October 29, 2009
This review is from: En Concert (Audio CD)
I am a really big Jack fan and I too was a little disappointed by this cd, as I have pretty much everything he's ever released on any album and soundtrack and after playing them for the one millionth time I could definitely use some new material. However, it goes to say something that i have listened to his work 1 million times and still put it on pretty much every day. I am really not sick of it. I did want to say, though that if you read the fine print, all the profits from Jack's 2008 tour and from these live releases are going to his charity in Hawaii. I think that is pretty cool. So he is not just trying to make a buck for his own pocket as the other reviewer said. I guess I am a little disappointed because it is the same songs, not much new stuff, and also at some times his voice doesn't sound up to par. But the songs with Paula Fuga are great (especially Country Road) and so is the version of Flake with Lebo. I don't regret adding this to my collection, and if you are a true jack fan you won't either. Just be prepared it isn't like getting a cd of all new and fresh material! by the way, I am writing this logged in as my husband if anyone cares :)

p.s. I just want to add that i really love seeing jack live because he always changes his songs up in tempo and rhythm and he does all these clever mixes where one song of his segues into another of his songs or into a song of another artist, and this cd does a really great job of capturing those aspects of his live performances. He can make a song you have heard over and over again sound completely new and fresh each time he plays it live. I also got the dvd but haven't watched it yet- probably tomorrow night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Wonderful, April 1, 2010

I was a little skeptical of this album because I already have several Jack Johnson albums and didn't really need a "greatest hits." However, this is not a mere compilation disc. There are familiar songs here to be certain, but each is done in a unique fashion, with often richer instrumentation than found on the original records. There are different instruments, different tempos, guest appearances galore. And there is energy and emotion in the live performances that is only hinted at in the studio work. This is now my favorite J. Johnson album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Applause, February 9, 2010

Of course the music is pure Jack Johnson with his friends, and that in itself is very awesome, but what makes this not just another concert movie, is Emmett Malloy's artful eye and talent to task and really brings out subtle, emotional visuals that make this a stand alone peice of art. Very tastefully done

I wasn't expecting too much from this album being familiar with most of his work already, but I fell in love with Jack all over again! Love the new twists on old favorites, and love the new song Country Road. Highly recommend for both new & old fans!

This is a great dvd/cd combo. I was extremely impressed w/ Amazon and their rapid delivery. As for the actual product, it is a dvd of a Jack Johnson concert. It's real good, just don't expect too much more. The cd is a good listen as well, but I like live albums.

This was a Christmas gift for my wife but it became our favorite concert. I very much recommend it. The DVD is also very nice, with images of the locations visited during the tour. If you buy it you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Jack Johnson, December 12, 2009

This CD/DVD combo is great for J.J. fans. Great songs, great "behind the scenes" stuff. My only complaint is there's no video of Jack's duet with Eddie Vedder.
