5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best concert albums I've ever heard, April 5, 2003
This review is from: En Concert (Audio CD)
I have never heard a concert album that captures the passion and incredible ability of a singer before. Mylene has been one of my favorite singers for a very long time, and this album is one of those that I never will let go of. The recording quality is incredible, and the overall feeling of the concert experience is amazing. Mylene gives a lovely performance, and the range of her vocals here is incredible.

There's one rule with this album, as with most of Mylene's work: you have to listen to it LOUD. This is music that works its way inside of you, that pulls you in and makes you a part of it, but it doesn't work well at lower volumes. Mylene and Laurent seem to try to make music that involves the listener, that doesn't hold back, and that captures your spirit, and at higher volumes, this is music that you feel, not so much hear.

Great lyrics, great voice, incredibly lively concert, a great mix of slow and fast and strange and unique--this album should define for other groups who come out with lame "greatest hits live" packages just how a concert recording SHOULD be done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and unique music, May 6, 2000

This review is from: En Concert (Audio CD)
This is a very excellent French pop music album. I had never heard Mylene Farmer until I listened to this album borrowed from the local library.

Her voice is very chic, and the music is quite modern and melodic. I love "Ainsi sois je..." and "Mama a tort" -- very unique. The instrumental tracks are great too. The songs and the applause gave me goose-bump because I could imagine the effect if the songs to be listened live.

5.0 out of 5 stars her first concert, January 10, 2010
This review is from: En Concert (Audio CD)
the public discovers this stage beast for the first time, 21 years ago. she also discovers herself too
since she views herself as an extremely shy person, so this first tour made mylene overcome her shyness and conquer the stage with relative ease. i say 'relative' because if you manage to get your hands on the actual video of that concert you can compare the evolution of her body language and dance sequences to her subsequent filmed tours. the concert starts with the haunting notes of "l'horloge'" , a gothic poem by french symbolist charles baudelaire, exquisitely sung and deeply emotional; it sets the tone of the whole concert with its dark and romantic aura. the stage is -fittingly- set like a graveyard and mylene appears with a burst of light amidst the ruins to a most gothic effect.
all songs are interpreted to perfection with none having a lesser impact than its studio rendition.
a special mention goes to the superbly arranged 'maman a tort', 'a quoi je sers' , 'ainsi sois je' 'tristana' and 'libertine' with their breathtaking stage performance as well as the intensely emotional deliveries of 'a quoi je sers' , 'ainsi sois je' and 'tristana'.
this is the only concert featuring 'tristana' , a personal all time favorite. 'a quoi je sers' was surprisingly performed for the first time in 20 years on mylene's latest tour in 2009 and those 2 songs are alone worth the admission price. discover one of pop and rock's greatest and most innovative artists. a delicate character and a ruthless stage presence at the same time.

P.S the video (only released as PAL laserdisc and VHS) has the same set list as the audio except for the song 'allan' which is only found in the audio cd, but that can be rectified if you get the 'music videos Vol I'DVD, where 'allan' is featured as a bonus video track from this 1989 tour. happy hunting..
