5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Hits from the Fruitful Years June 1, 2003
Format:Audio CD
I own most of the albums of La Union. This was my first purchase and was the album that led me to explore their catalog. I believe this album is a much better presentation of their catalog than the later greatest hits.
The highlights are "lobo hombre de Paris", "mas y mas", "donde estabais" and the medley of " san francisco/el blues". If you like this album, you may want to explore Al Este del Eden, Tentacion and the later album Hyperespacio. Historically, I consider this album to be of the same stature as the legendary Miguel Bose en Directo en el 90.

4.0 out of 5 stars at their peak...LIVE June 17, 2003
Format:Audio CD
I prefer the style of La Union's first album ("Mil Siluetas") to what their sound evolved by this album, however, they sound great live. I don't know if the audience cheers where augmented in the studio (probably not - audience are "Madrilenos"), but Rafa Sanchez must have an incredible stage prescence as well as a great voice - I've never heard an audience so enthusiastic...not even for the Beatles.

There are two versions of this album: the 14 track single CD you see here, and a 2 CD set sold only in Spain, containing 18 songs in total ("mas dura sera la caida" and "el rey del ring" - "entre flores raras", and "mi viejo barrio"). The interesting things about this band is that while about only half the album contains their greatest hits at that point in their career, the rest is really awful. The albums starts off strong with "mas y mas", flows into "Maracaibo", and keeps up the festive mood for the most oart of the first disc. it is right after "lobo hombre" that things begin to slip. There are a couple of really good tracks (vivir al este..", "ella es un volcan", tren de largo...") but the rest is mere filler, and the end of the album ("berlin") is a total letdown. Any band worth its salt will always begin with a bang and end with another one. There are peaks and valleys throughout any show, but on this album the concert ends with a depressing song that makes the listener wish they had gone out earlier: the band has run out of steam. Still, even their bad songs sound better performed and alive than the studio versions. In later years they made some really excellent albums (hiperespacio, la union), and some questionable ones. The 14 track single disc version cuts out most of the deadwood and you're left with a netter than half album full of good tunes. Recommended for both fans and casual listeners alike.
