I love this bread box. True it does not have a tight fitting lid, but in reality, the actual wrapping on the bread keeps it fresh. I don't think this box was intended for unwrapped baked goods or to keep insects out of the food(note the vent hole in the lid). A plastic box/tub would be air/insect proof. Too tight a seal does not allow air circulation or light which means mold. This box is attractive and fun, sturdy and is a 'place'for me to keep the bread on the counter, out of sight. I like the old fashioned kitchen/retro look. I want another one for chips/cookies!

I love this old time bread box. It fits perfectly in my kitchen and reminds me of visiting my great-grandmother every time I open the lid. I did have to contact the company, but I received prompt and courteous attention. I recommend this product as well as "From Things Forgotten Antiques"

Not What I was wanting
Although it is suppose to have a "distressed finish" it was really cheeply made. It rocks on the counter due to uneven bottom and the paint has drips. The company I got it from were really great about refunding me. But if you are looking for something like this I recomend you find one at an antique shop.

Very disappointed with this product. I was expecting it to be more substantial for the price. It was made of lightweight tin and the lid did not sit properly. In an effort to attain the "distressed" look, the white spray paint was applied in a messy fashion and flecks of it started popping off as I was placing the lid on.

i love the way the bread box looks, but in reality, i was hoping to be able to fit 2 or 3 breads in here, and i can't even fit one bread in without having to divide the bread into ziplock bags to MAKE them fit. the box looks great, but it was definitely way overpriced, i paid almost 70 dollars for it :-(

I was so excited about getting this because the bread box looked so cute and would be a perfect addition to my kitchen. However, when it arrived it was abundantly clear that we had paid way too much for it. It is a tin can spray painted white (chipping in several places) and since someone spray painted the word bread on it in a cute font, this company is charging a ridiculous price for the item. If I found this at an antique and/or thrift store it would probably cost $10-15. If you want the vintage look, I would recommend shopping around or going to esty.
