Editorial Reviews

Selena Quintanilla, known simply as Selena, was a Mexican-American singer-songwriter. She was named "Top Latin Artist Of The '90s" and "Best Selling Latin Artist Of The Decade" by Billboard magazine for her 14 Top Ten singles in the Top Latin songs chart, including seven #1s. Selena was called "The Queen Of Tejano Music" and often referred as the Mexican equivalent to Madonna. What Selena accomplished by the time of her death, others could spend a lifetime trying to achieve. Selena's 2012 release, Enamorada de Ti shows her in a new level. This recording shows fans and the rest of the world how Selena would sound today. She would be a 40 year old woman with a solid career, collaborating with the hottest artists and continuing to break ground. Selena's legacy lives on and is shown on this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Selena Resurrects! April 9, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
After numerous and countless albums featuring the same songs, the Quintanilla family has finally resurrected the beauty and intensity of Selena's gift. Her voice. Through modern technology and today's most popular singers, they have managed to breathe new life into the music and have brought Selena back from the grave! The songs sound brand new and fresh, as if Selena had just exited the studio and released the album.

"Como La Flor", by far Selena's biggest and most known song, was transformed into a really nice Ranchera featuring Cristian Castro and it really does sound like an entirely new song. It sounds like anything Jenni Rivera could release today. For anyone that doesn't know, Jenni Rivera (who doesn't even hold a candle to Selena) is one of the biggest Mexican artists of today who sings mostly rancheras.

Songs like "Ya No" with Carlos Santana's band sound like an entirely different, new song; adding the Latin rock flavor that is popular with Santana's music. I really like this song because it just sounds really different. It's not the genre that you would expect to hear Selena singing. This just shows how versatile her voice could have been. Her voice fits this style perfectly fine.

"Fotos Y Recuerdo" featuring Don Omar is one my favorites, personally. They turned into a sort of melancholy song into a fun cumbia, reminiscent of Don Omar's reggaeton/cumbia style. "Fotos Y Recuerdos" is my second favorite song on this album. It just sounds so lively and beautiful. It sounds completely fresh.

"Enamorada De Ti" is by far the best song on the album, definitely one of my favorites of all of Selena's songs. It sounds so different and full of life. They turned into a modern merengue song and it adds so much Latin flavor and soul into it. It sounds so great.

The song "Is It The Beat?" really surprised me. It sounds like it could have been released today. The music is so modern and sounds like 2012; it could've been recorded by anyone from Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Katy Perry, or any famous pop artist of today. I had to keep checking the CD to see if it was actually Selena. I can't believe that this song was recorded in 1989. This just shows how ahead of her time Selena Y Los Dinos were with their music and how Selena could have sounded today if she had lived and achieved her goal of making a pop album in English.

This album really impressed me and is what the fans really wanted; to hear Selena's voice again in an entirely new way.

I can't wait for the next one. I hope they make more duets with greater and better artists in the future! It'd also be nice if they made every song with a modern take on it. I'd really like to hear Selena sing in Norteño, Duranguense, more Rancheras, and in the style of Kumbia Kings (really fast cumbias with a lot of effects and lively sounds).

A must for the ardent Selena fans out there. I don't understand Spanish unless it's food but I love the rythym and tempo of Selena's music and these are some of her best works in different arrangements. Some slower, some as duets and that last song I'm sure would be a hit if it were released as a single.

1.0 out of 5 stars Selena deserves better December 15, 2012
By Jen
Format:Audio CD
Again, we have the same Selena songs reissued, this time again remixed or featuring some hot stars duetting with her. I am not interested in a millionth remix or some other star attempting to sing her songs. I am by far more I am interested in what SHE actually recorded, the massive archive of unreleased Selena songs that curiously are refused to be released. It's been 17 years, release the archive already! Frankly, Selena deserves better treatment than this!
