Wealth of magickal oil formulas though not necessarily accurate,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Enchanted Formulary: Blending Magickal Oils for Love, Prosperity, and Healing (Paperback)
If you are looking for lots of magickal oil formulas, in this book you can find recipes for every occasion, and you can have endless fun mixing the oils.
On the other hand, most of the recipes in this book ask for fruit or flower oils which may be only available in synthetic form. If you like to mix only natural oils, you may have to do more experimenting with natural oils to bring out similar scents. Some formulas in this book are very different from traditional recipes - for example Van Van, which traditionally contains Lemongrass and several other grass oils, in this book is changed to vanilla, rose and almond - which doesn't come even close to the traditional Van Van oil. And while the more you know about oils, herbs and scents, the more will you know what and when to substitute, many times your nose may guide you - so if you are concocting oil for love, if it smells like love to you, it may be just good enough for your purpose, or if you are creating a money oil, and it smells like money to you, it may just work all the magic you need it to do for you. If you are mixing oils to summon different deities and energies, perhaps you should better double check these recipes with those that are used traditionally and for that matter before you are summoning anything, make sure you know inside and out what is it that you are summoning, to avoid any unpleasant surprises. This book contains variety of oils used in Voodoo and in Hoodoo, and traditional recipes are made out of natural roots and herbs, so this book may not be the best guide if you are looking for authentic recipes.

This is by far The Greatest how to book I have read. Items listed in the book are easily accessible and the formulas are superb. I know for a fact that some of the strongest and most powerful spiritualists in the country swear by this book! The Enchanted Formulary has and will serve as a Bible for mixtures .. This is an ideal book both for the seasoned professional as well as anyone simply looking to experience a little something new.
BTW: the smartest purchase I've made this year!

fragrance oils,

This review is from: The Enchanted Formulary: Blending Magickal Oils for Love, Prosperity, and Healing (Paperback)
This book contains 122 recipes of love oils. Two of them is possible to do with essential oils found in a well sorted store. But not even these two is affordable for most people, since there main ingredidients are jasmine and rose oils. To do the blends in this book you have to rely on synthetic fragrances. Synthetics are bad for the enviornment and usually not made for use on the body. Synthetic musks, wich is added to most love-recepies in this book is very bad both for the earth and for humans.
The author doesn't have a sound knowledge of herbalism at all. As an example she writes that vetiver is the root of the patchouli-plant. There are a few sound recepies in there, but how would you know wich was wich if you don't have a lot of herbal and fragrance experience from the beginning. I hope people don't take this book as knowledgeble and I hope people selling oils in the pagan/magick community in the future will know more about what they do then this. This book is about someone learning a recipe "Bomba bamba" from a questionable man (Herman Slater) changing one synthetic say melon to another say almond in the original Bomba bamba, resulting in the blend 3/4 rose oil (synthetic) 1/4 almond (synthetic) and some drops of rain perfume oil and smelling what it smells like. If it's okey, then out in the store as a protection formula. There is also a lack of knowledge about how the hoodoo oils with a specific name is used, and the ingredients are not traditionally right either. This book however has a very well written article by Michael Lloyd entitled "The history of oils"

I'd read good things about this book, and I was really excited to get it. Sadly, my excitement was misplaced. The history of oils is excellent, and her introductory chapter on how to use them is also very good, but the formulas themselves? Oh, so not good. Sadly, that's 80% of the book.
For one, every other recipe, no matter where it is in the book, for what purpose, lists rose oil. Every third has lavender or honeysuckle. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to her formulas other than they smell pretty. She's also used a number of cologne oils for famous scents like White Diamonds and Obsession. There's a long history of that sort of thing (for example, Hoyt's Cologne or Florida Water), but again, smelling pretty seems to be the priority. I had no idea she owed so much to Herman Slater's system of formulas. If I'd known, I would have avoided this book altogether. For your own benefit, avoid this book altogether. You're better of creating your own recipes out of Cat Yronwode's book, as at least she has a cohesive cultural structure to the system. This has no system behind it at all.

This is a good book to own if you want to formulate some beautiful aromas that may or not bring about a little magic. If you know anything about the practice of changing circumstances you may need a little more than oil. However what this book may say about the writers is that they have an inbuilt knowledge of magic and this is just the oils they used with it. Either way this book is useful for 2 types of owners 1. The practitioner who likes to ponder and adopt another's handwork that has delivered for their client. or 2. The home made gift fanatic who wants to add a little interest to their gift basket this christmas ( who thinks a rootworker is a hooker ).
Easy to read and well worth owning a copy it comes in handy. Bravo Ladies

One of the greatest wiccan formularies,

With reference to wiccan, pagan, voodoo and santeria, this book is just about the best when it comes to mixing oils, baths, candle dressings, etc. Lady Rhea, who now owns a spiritual supply shop in the Bronx, was for many years, the chief apothecarian at the now-defunct Magickal Childe in New York City, which before it closed, was perhaps the largest earth religion hub in the world.

(excuse spelling)
I have tried making and useing about 10 or 12 of these blends. Lattly I'v found that alot of these oils can be used for intentions slitly different from the stated ones. for instence. Knowlege oil- is suppost to encreese your wisdom but I found it totaly unhelpfull for studying. however I have found it usefull for atracting people who want to learn from me Enchantment oil- does lessen bordom and make life temperarly more exciting it also incresses sexual excitment some what. which was not stated. Bend Over oil- I did not get the results I excpected I wanted to get my teacher to respect me more. it did not work for that but maybe her blend is supposed to be used only in sexual situations. I have had great luck making these oils for freands the best was Gardian Angel which smells as sweet and pure as its name, and brought great comfort to my freand these are only a few examples. there are definatly over a 100 or more blending formulars for you to play around with even if you don't use it that often its worth the price of the book. essental oils are expensive. be sure you realy want to work with them before you disside to use them as your primary tool( most herbs are cheaper). what another reviwer wrote was desseptive there are plenty of opertuitys to use real essental oils in this book but also the other reviwer was right that some of these oils like Rain or Opium have no real essental oil conter part. if your realy dead set on useing only naturl substanses you can create your own essental oil substute out of oils that smell to you like "rain". sintetic oils are no more a threat to the envirment than the sinthetic dies we use every day in our clothing and we make much less sinthetic fragrencecs. as to wether they are dangourus to put on my skin nobody knows whether synthitc products are obsorbd in to the skin with harmful effect. if they are we are all in truble because most skin cream contain pertroleam. so a synthetic fragrence whould be about the same risk as a skin lottion. personly I'm working on collecting more real essental oils verses synthitic because I'v found they are more powerfull (theoriticly they contain the Deva or spirit of the plant they came from) but snythitics work to, as the power of magic comes from its effect on the soul and mind not realy the tools you use. enjoy this book.

A keeper,

I admit to having a soft spot in my heart for a good spellbook, and this is one is one of the best. The formulas are easy and easily customized. One thing. . . some of the formulas are best made if you have the true essential oil, but some of the formulas lend themselves to use of synthetics, especially since there is no essential oil called "opium", and the use of true musk or civit would not be cost effective or kind to animals.
I like that formulas are written for all 10 planets, not just the classical 7, and there are nice formulas written for dieties such as Ganesha, Tara, Kali, and Durga. Of course there are many formulations for love no matter what your relationship style. Some of the formulas may be very simular to other books of this type, but the differences are enough to feel that the material presented here is fresh and new. I also like the fact that the author provides some personal commentary throughout the book, to give the formulas added depth and meaning.

Great book!,

This review is from: The Enchanted Formulary: Blending Magickal Oils for Love, Prosperity, and Healing (Paperback)
I simply love this book. It is backed with formulas for every possible situation. If you truly understand the lore behind some of these oils: you could easily see the power behind these formulas.
The ONLY disappointment with this book is that the author doesn't give the reader the Numerology behind the formulas. For example, potions are given in 1/3, 1/8, 10 drops etc. You wonder how these measurements add to the potency of the formulas, or if they help at all. I still gave the author 5 stars just because her formulas are excellent. She also packs the book with hundreds of formulas. You can plainly see the huge amount of work she put into making this book. I especially love the Hindu God/Goddess formulas the author gives. She gives formulas for Tara, Lakshmi, Ganesha and more. I can't say enough good things about this book. I highly recommend it!

I like this book very much. I must admit that even in europe the recipes that are written in it are quite expensive, nevertheless the mixture makes very nice oil perfumes. I stopped wearing designer perfumes since they dont last even you pay them 150 usd.
for the magickal result it all depends on what you believe, and how you feel about it. I am very satisfied of this book, and it is not hard to use since it very good explained. thank you |
