5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem in a Jewel Case!, January 27, 2003
This review is from: Enchanted (Audio CD)
this cd is my most prized posession. i've memorized every word of every song, every line of melody and harmony... every song is completely different, fantastically moody, magically brilliant... what poetry in his lyrics! what passion in his voice! i'm convinced i will never own an album i prize more than this one. i'd give it a sky full of stars, but since i can only give five, that's what i'll do.

5.0 out of 5 stars best ever Marc albumn!, July 18, 2003

Following marc through his many phases, I still find myself going back in time to this, his finest moment. The full album has exotic tastes, tinges of sadness, happiness and that "all important sleaze factor" that Marc does so well! It will take you on a journey to Spain, the Far East, the sea, and other dark places... if you think Marc Almond was washed up after Soft Cell, forget it, this is the mature Marc, I never tire of every song on it!! a must buy for anyone with taste...

Wow, this is a great CD. Every song on it is excellent. The music styles have changed over the years, and this style was really wonderful. I had this on cassette for years before it was available on CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy and drama!, April 25, 2007
This review is from: Enchanted (Audio CD)
i owned a copy of this album on tape when it was released. Being my 1st encounter with marc almond, it took me awhile before the music grew on me. But after it did, it just opened me up into a whole new world of drama and fantasy! The power of music, lyrics and a good voice!! The tape got thrown out by my mom years later and i spent years looking for a replacement. Now i have a new copy and it has transported me instantly into fantasyland again.

i wonder if there are music videos for the entire album? That would be amazing! i think its somewhat dark but thats also what makes it so wickedly good!!

5.0 out of 5 stars orchestral disturbance, March 11, 2007
This review is from: Enchanted (Audio CD)
forget the Marc Almond you normally heard of through the omnipresent 'tainted love'. Beside to that hit, Marc is a strange, rich, and always surprising artist.

His records goes through and incredible range of music, feelings and moods. Somethings like the Mother's fist, or Tenement Simphony the note is profound, elegant and classical, far, very far from disco or rock, but instead a strange blend of an extremely cult and informed music gathering sounds all over the world.

In Enchanted, the same quality the cover has -in a photograph by the french duo Pierre et Gilles- goes all over the record. A surface simulation opens the door to a campy, almost kitsch mood, that once heard transforms into a whole piece. Opera without stages and singers, just a mental landscape of a timeless place where mythologies collide: the orpheus in red velvet -so Cocteau-, the Madame de la Luna in a spaniard tenure, the unbelievable 'A lover Spurned' one of my favorite songs of all times.

As a matter of fact this was my first disc of Marc, and then went to buy everything of him, discs, books of travels, biography, poetry, and the time he was in Mexico city... I never heard....

This is so deep and elegant, complicated, that it would not be easy to describe the mood to hear it, but be sure: there are records to carry on with your driving, to hear while shopping, to put as a sound landscape while eating; this record is dangerous because anywhere you hear it, the world would dissapear and you will be literally 'enchanted' and trasport to a land of pure magic and evocation.

It was unavailable for a while, and now like it says here re edited in 2005. Go and get it, next to all Marc's Records. If you can, maybe at youtube get a glimpse of the video of 'A lover spurned' also by Pierre et Gilles -I think the only video of them I ever seen-, and then buy it, and treasure it.
