1.0 out of 5 stars Could it be the translation or is the book really this bad?, June 6, 2006
This review is from: The Enchanted Planet (Paperback)
In the first 5 pages I thought that it was some kind of literary joke. Then it just kept going.

Some mysterious people in a space ship hand an astronaut a magic jewel that bequeths psychic powers in a feudal fantasy land. Oh I know that in theory this could still be a wonderful story but this all happens in the first two pages of the book. If you then consider that this magic jewel has no limitations and vanqishes everything while twirling a baton and flying telepathic spaceships you start to get the idea of how bad this book is. To frost this monstrosity of a literary cake the jewel also allows the dubious hero to change shape at will and assume the form of (pause for dramatic effect) King Arthur, complete with glow in the dark armor and unbreakable sword.

On the plus side I got this at a used book store for a dollar. On the down side I paid a dollar for this thing.

Maybe I'm being too hard on it though. I'm only at page 101 of 159 and there's still hope that it will turn into a diamond. Then again there's always a chance I'll pass a diamond next time I sit down to read another few pages of this book.
