5.0 out of 5 stars A trove of treasure from a great musician
I've never understood why fans buy boxed sets. They already have the music except for the one or two new songs included (which usually aren't worth a listen). "Enchanted", however, is different. Disc three was obviously created with the buyer in mind, and I bought "Enchanted" because of that disc. I'm sure I've saved piles of money!

3.0 out of 5 stars A greatest hits collection that misses the target
Yep, you got all the hits here along with B-sides, songs from soundtracks, and a horrible piano version of "Rhiannon". What's missing is insight. Instead we're asked to look through a scrapbook, and not a journal. How much fun can that be? I recommend "TimeSpace: The Best of Stevie Nicks" for the Cliffs Notes version of this tedious and ultimately...

5.0 out of 5 stars A trove of treasure from a great musician, July 22, 2000
This review is from: Enchanted (Audio CD)
I've never understood why fans buy boxed sets. They already have the music except for the one or two new songs included (which usually aren't worth a listen). "Enchanted", however, is different. Disc three was obviously created with the buyer in mind, and I bought "Enchanted" because of that disc. I'm sure I've saved piles of money!

The songs she's released for movies ("Blue Lamp", "Battle of the Dragon", "Violet and Blue", and "Sleeping Angel" for instance) rank with some of her best tracks. However, there was no way I was ever going to shell out the bucks for all those cheesy soundtrack CDs! All these songs are included in "Enchanted".

The inclusion of "Gold and Braid" is great! I loved that performance when I first heard it, and now I have it! Plus there's "Gold", a Buckingham Nicks song, "Garbo", a remix of "I Can't Wait", and lots of other great stuff here to warrant the purchase. Even some of the tracks taken from her CDs are actually slightly altered versions of the original songs. It's like they're going out of their way to make you feel good about purchasing this!

As to the demos ("Twisted", "Sweet Girl", and "It's Late"), I was surprised how much I enjoyed these stripped down tracks. As a solo artist, I think Stevie Nicks is sometimes over-produced, and I found the simplicity and intimate energy of these straight-forward performances really refreshing. She sounded very relaxed and natural.

I would've happily paid even more if they'd added a fourth disc like disc three. They could've included the rest of Stevie's Buckingham Nicks music, "Sorcerer", the remix of "The Nightmare" from the "I Can't Wait" maxi-single, unreleased studio tracks (there must be lots), and lots of demos. I bet stripped down demos of songs like "Sister Honey" or "If I Were You" would be revelations. Or how about that FM b-side "Book of Miracles"...

But I guess they had to draw the line somewhere! Great job!

4.0 out of 5 stars "Enchanted" delivers a haunting spectrum of Nicks' Career, February 15, 2000
This review is from: Enchanted (Audio CD)
Stevie Nicks' musical treasure, "Enchanted" is a masterpiece of incredible songs, reflecting an incredible career. Spanning many facets of this diva's life, "Enchanted" offers many bonuses to the Nicks fan. Firstly, the music is as always, incredible! The songs are bewitching, charming, and sincere. Nicks achieves an intimacy with her audience through her truthful lyrics and her haunting voice. Secondly, the box set offers many never released demos which are just buried treasure for all who love Stevie. All of the songs span her solo career, except for the very personal piano version of "Rhiannon". The box set is almost worth buying just for this version of the classic. It's a subtly charming cut that weaves into the listener's mind, creating fancy and dreams. Accompanying the music is this incredible libretto of sorts, which includes many great pictures of Stevie, and her own words concerning her music. She has often described this album as a photo collection of all her memories, and truly this is the feeling with "Enchanted". You feel as if you are sitting down with this incredible and rare scrapbook of a star. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitive Stevie Nicks, right up through 1998, August 14, 2006
By
This review is from: Enchanted (Audio CD)
Seeing as how Stevie has only released one album since 1998, the excellent _Trouble in Shangri-La_ in 2001, I think one won't go far wrong by getting that album and this box set (in fact Amazon makes it easy for you by offering just such a deal!) I said "box set" but that's a misnomer; this is really a booklet-set, with the three CD's set in the inside covers of a 64-page booklet crammed with photos in color and B&W (many of them previously unpublished when the compilation originally came out) and a complete set of lyrics for all the songs. The first two discs contain all of Stevie's solo singles (with the notable exception of "Sometimes It's A Bitch", her single off the 1991 greatest-hits compliation _Timespace_; I seem to remember Stevie saying that she really hated that title and released the song chiefly at the urging of her label executives) and B-sides, including several non-album songs that have never before been released on CD. The third disc is where a Stevie fan really hits the jackpot, because here one finds demos, unreleased songs, rare tracks from movie soundtracks, the famous "Golden Braid" which was long a staple of her live sets (here we see that the real name of the song is "Gold and Braid") and even a cover of Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'" with Stevie on guitar!

As a Stevie fan for over 20 years, I simply can't say enough good things or heap enough praise on this superb collection. If you're at all interested in Stevie Nicks, buy this item today!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Box Set, January 26, 2001
This review is from: Enchanted (Audio CD)
This set is a great collection from one of Rock's most enchanting singer/songwriters. I have been a Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks fan since the '70's, so I was very pleased when this release came out. It does a great job of covering Stevie's great solo career. I heard that there even more songs that she wanted to put on this set but was forced to settle for 3 discs only. I definately would have bought it with another disc on it. I just hope that they will re-release Buckingham/Nicks on cd soon. Both her and Lindsey said they would like to do it, so hopefully they will surprise us some day. It was great to have songs like Long Distance Winner, Gold, It's Late, Whenever I Call You Friend, Gold and Braid and Reconsider Me on this set. I'm also eagerly awaiting her new cd. She hasn't had one since 1994, so hurry up already Stevie. If you are a big Stevie fan, you must get this set. Let us know what you think of it.

If I were to put together a Stevie Nicks box set, this is how it would've turned out. Stevie's greatest hits are included (Stand Back, Edge of Seventeen - an amazing live version - Talk To Me) as well as many of her beautiful underrated songs (Bella Donna, Street Angel, Wild Heart). Still not convinced? This box set ALSO includes many b-sides and songs that were only available on soundtracks (Garbo, Violet and Blue, Sleeping Angel, Blue Lamp, Reconsider Me). One of the highlights is the GORGEOUS piano version of Rhiannon. This is a MUST HAVE for anyone who has every found themselves enchanted by the powerful music of Stevie Nicks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great "Best of", November 12, 1999

I think the title of this boxed set says it all. These are the enchanted works of Stevie Nicks, there are some tracks on this set that are previously unreleased (at least some I've never heard, a couple for Japanese Imports).. All the tracks on this set just plain rock, there awsome.. definitly a a+ album.

The Piano version of Rhiannon on this is just amazing. So different from the Fleetwood Mac version, but at the same time just so stevie. I love this version of rhiannon.

5.0 out of 5 stars An "Enchanting" Selection from Stevie Nicks, June 13, 1999
This review is from: Enchanted (Audio CD)
Stevie Nicks, legendary chanteuse of Fleetwood Mac, has dazzled us once again with this three CD boxed set celebrating her amazing twenty year career. Disc one contains hits from her first few albums, including "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," her smash 1981 duet with Tom Petty, and the masterful, majestic ballad "Beauty and the Beast." Disc two includes songs from her later solo efforts, such as "Rooms on Fire," and "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for you." Of course, any true Stevie fan would go right to disc three, which contains unreleased gems like the moving "Sleeping Angel," and an amazing live version of concert favorite "Gold and Braid." "Enchanted" is a must-have for Stevie Nicks lovers-- I've owned it for a year and still haven't tired of it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A revlevatory compilation!, July 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Enchanted (Audio CD)
Stevie Nicks has long been dismissed as an airhead and has-been by critics who would prefer to give Lindsey Buckingham credit for her outstanding Fleetwwod Mac hits. This box-set, despite its tacky cover art and mediocre documentation, proves them wrong on most fronts. Despite a few unneccesary inclusions (virtually every track from her forgettable "Street Angel" album and some unworthy rarities,) this collection makes a strong case for her emritus status amongst many of today's most popular performers. Indeed, one cannot help but think that such stars as Sarah MacLachlan, Tori Amos, Courtney Love, Kristin Hersh and Maria Mckee would never have risen to prominence if Nicks hadn't cleared a path for them. Equally delicate and defiant, the songs here speak to both a broad, commercial audience and cultists alike. Songs like "Edge of Seventeen," "Stop Draggin My Heart Around," "Rhiannon," "Nightbird" and especially the s! ! tunning "Stand Back" are undeniable in their emotional power. Nicks, at her best, rivals any rocker, male or female, with her sure-fire hooks and self-assurance. What surprises the most is the consistently excellent quality of many non-charting album cuts. "Bella Donna" offers up sublime harmonies and a deeply idiosyncratic sense of melody. "Enchanted" layers one hook onto another. "I Sing for the Things" is utterly lovely. Best of all, Disc Three, which contains a wealth of hard-to-find numbers, includes the superb "Violet and Blue," a sharp cover of Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'" and the super-rare Buckingham Nicks track "Long Distance Winner." All in all, a top-notch career retrospective. The great demo of "Twisted," a song from the "Twister" soundtrack, suggests that the talented Ms. Nicks has even more gems in her. Watch out for her next solo album...

5.0 out of 5 stars The is Stevie at her very best!, June 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Enchanted (Audio CD)
Stevie's music has always had a huge impact on my life. I've never known another artist who can touch people the same way because she always puts her complete self into her music. This box set represents the very best of Stevie's work through her years as a solo artist. It's a roller coaster ride through every human emotion possible.

You can tell she had this unique gift even as far back as when she was with Buckingham Nicks. The song, "Long Distance Winner" demonstrates the agony of being in a relationship with someone you can't reach. The previously unreleased songs "Garbo" and "One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star" show off her powerful vocal range and strong emotion and are now two of my favorite songs by her. I'm also thrilled to finally have "Gold and Braid" which is an old favorite of her fans who loved the song on her 1983 concert video, but it wasn't available on any of her other albums.

There were a couple of songs I wasn't so crazy about. Stevie's voice on "Thousand Days" and "Whole Lot of Trouble" seemed a bit "choppy", for a lack of better description (sorry Stevie). But, there were just so many other beautifully written and performed songs here that these two are barely even noticed.

An added bonus to all the wonderful music is all the beautiful pictures of Stevie that comes with it. You can flip through the pictures as you listen or sing along with all the songs because all the words are there for you. This box set is an absolute must for any Stevie fans

5.0 out of 5 stars How To Do A Boxed Set, Love, Stevie, March 10, 2003

Not one hit on this set was missed, and that makes this set a "how to" for artists around long enough with a catalog worthy and volumess to warrant a boxed set. Stevie's album cuts and appearances on various soundtracks and other artists albums are included here, making this boxed set what all boxed sets are intended to be, an excellent summary and comprehensive collection of an excellent body of work, all beautifully remastered. Stevie was working on a new studio album during research for this project, the long awaited "Trouble In Shangri-La," which took her seven years to complete. Note the absence of a "new song" for this collection, save for the re-recording of "Rhiannon," stripped down to piano and haunting vocal, intended by the songwriter to give closer attention to the nucleus of the song, the lyric.
