Really nice, ambient and unobtrusive,

I like to listen to a lot of different types of music. From Dream Theater to ambient Brian Eno/Nurse With Wound stuff to Miles Davis, Tchaikovsky, blah blah blah. But I HATE smooth jazz, really whiny country (some old school is not bad) and operatic women that want to ruin eardrums. As far as the ambient, I am really picky about it. For me, it has to be organic (not too synth patch/electronic sounding) and great as background music and/or studied listening. Enchanted Wind definitely fits that description. You can hear Suzanne blow air through the flute; it's that clean! Plus, it's definitely not some kind of watered down Yanni stuff; no beats, just extremely soft and soothing ambience. I initially bought this so that when I drive my son around (he's an infant), he would relax and sleep or just chill. And he does that. Well, so do I. It's good for studying, driving, meditating and just really getting in a good mood. But it's good to really focus on the great melodies that Suzanne plays with outstanding tone and perfect intonation. I've listened to more of her stuff, but this one is just great.

This is amazing and very moving music. In fact, there has not been a recording like this that I know about since Paul Horn was doing his solo flute pieces back in the 70's. Suzanne Teng, a classical and world music flute player based in California, has achieved a remarkable and deep resonance in this recording. If I had titled this myself, I would have named it Opening the Heart. The theme of Suzanne's playing is love, spiritual awakening and opening of the heart chakra. Suzanne is not just a very technical player, but also a deeply spiritual and meditative one. Her music opens the door to a deep perception of the nature of being, and of the process of surrender to nature and awakening.
For fans of the flute, this album is also a great inspiration. Not only does she play the amazing contra bass, but her alto flute, bass flute and bamboo flute playing is all on the highest level. She does not simply play these instruments as a novelty, but has obviously spent many years mastering their unique qualities and timbre. Suzanne is able to combine elements of Indian music, jazz, and classical in a new and fresh way. Her playing reaches out to the listener. But at its center, is the most profound depth and spirit Some will hear this music as beautiful background music, but for serious listeners, this is a deeply spiritual work. It is full of boldness and compassion. It is soft yet strong. I hope Suzanne records many more times in this style. Solo flute playing (there are supportive instruments as well) is one of my absolute favorites. But for now, we have this jewel to treasure and to refer to. And for all of us who wish to open ourselves, this is the soundtrack for the deepest and most profound flowering.

A sound of celestial breath
Making you dizzy with love... A song of peace and quiet. Sounds penetrating into the innermost depths of your essence. There is an inexhaustible love and calm for a restless mind in them. These simple flute's sounds evoke the eternity breathing. You can't tear yourself away while listening "Enchanted Wind", you just fall within the flow of celestial breath. You feel it and this breath passes through you. All of a sudden you realize how empty and hollow you are. And your emptiness increases, the inner borders and walls diffuse more and more. You become absolutely cored inside you. But together with breathing the joy and love come. And this love is as everlasting as the universe is, it is as boundless as you yourself are. Suzanne Teng's new album is an inestimable gift. It is hard to compare its profundity with something else for the "Enchanted Wind" is music-meditation. Suzanne Teng plays the very assorted flutes: from simple ones to exotic ones. I was staggered with unusual sounding of a contrabass flute in the "Loltun" composition. There is something savage, primeval in the sounds of this flute. And moreover in its sounding the organ's power and volume are felt. And in general the voluminosity is an outstanding feature of Suzanne Teng's art. Her compositions are three-dimensional pictures tending to infinity. Gilbert Levy, Suzanne Teng's husband and partner assisted her in album recording. He creates a very gentle and delicate entourage for Suzanne's flutes. Music of "Enchanted Wind" forms a protective cocoon around a listener which blockades all negative effects. You just want to live with this music. The world would be much poorer without it. "Enchanted Wind" is another, a higher quality of consciousness. And while listening to this album you desire to comply with it. And it proves to be not in the least complicated... Within the sounds of a flute You fly away To where an enchanted wind Takes you with it. Serge Kozlovsky [...] P.S. Translated by Tatyana L. Permyakova.
