5.0 out of 5 stars Really nice, ambient and unobtrusive
I like to listen to a lot of different types of music. From Dream Theater to ambient Brian Eno/Nurse With Wound stuff to Miles Davis, Tchaikovsky, blah blah blah. But I HATE smooth jazz, really whiny country (some old school is not bad) and operatic women that want to ruin eardrums. As far as the ambient, I am really picky about it. For me, it has to be organic (not too synth patch/electronic sounding) and great as background music and/or studied listening. Enchanted Wind definitely fits that description. You can hear Suzanne blow air through the flute; it's that clean! Plus, it's definitely not some kind of watered down Yanni stuff; no beats, just extremely soft and soothing ambience. I initially bought this so that when I drive my son around (he's an infant), he would relax and sleep or just chill. And he does that. Well, so do I. It's good for studying, driving, meditating and just really getting in a good mood. But it's good to really focus on the great melodies that Suzanne plays with outstanding tone and perfect intonation. I've listened to more of her stuff, but this one is just great.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most beautiful flute cd's ever, May 30, 2007

This is amazing and very moving music. In fact, there has not been a recording like this that I know about since Paul Horn was doing his solo flute pieces back in the 70's. Suzanne Teng, a classical and world music flute player based in California, has achieved a remarkable and deep resonance in this recording. If I had titled this myself, I would have named it Opening the Heart. The theme of Suzanne's playing is love, spiritual awakening and opening of the heart chakra. Suzanne is not just a very technical player, but also a deeply spiritual and meditative one. Her music opens the door to a deep perception of the nature of being, and of the process of surrender to nature and awakening.

For fans of the flute, this album is also a great inspiration. Not only does she play the amazing contra bass, but her alto flute, bass flute and bamboo flute playing is all on the highest level. She does not simply play these instruments as a novelty, but has obviously spent many years mastering their unique qualities and timbre.

Suzanne is able to combine elements of Indian music, jazz, and classical in a new and fresh way. Her playing reaches out to the listener. But at its center, is the most profound depth and spirit

Some will hear this music as beautiful background music, but for serious listeners, this is a deeply spiritual work. It is full of boldness and compassion. It is soft yet strong. I hope Suzanne records many more times in this style. Solo flute playing (there are supportive instruments as well) is one of my absolute favorites. But for now, we have this jewel to treasure and to refer to. And for all of us who wish to open ourselves, this is the soundtrack for the deepest and most profound flowering.

Simply lovely. Ms. Teng's proficiency on the lower flutes is brilliantly demonstrated here. A suberb choice for relaxation after a hard day.

While this is not up to her superb performances on her Mystic Journey album....it is still a fine offering. I often use it as background music during therapy sessions. No surprises here, but some good solid musical pleasure.

Introduced to me by a massage therapist, "Enchanted Wind" has an engaging yet mesmerizing sound. The mind is intrigued by wondering which of the many flute instruments Ms. Teng is playing while the body can relax. I put it on to write, or while walking up difficult hills. By author, Cynthia Wall

Three of the songs on this album are mixed in my favorite YogaFit CD. My yoga students always tell me their fav yoga CD is the one with the Suzanne Teng so when I began teaching Tai-chi, I purchased the entire CD for background music. I also listen to this CD when I travel by airplane as I frequently fly to places with lots of turbulence and this helps calm me down and puts me to sleep.

WOW! I am a REALLY HYPER person...the word "RELAX" isn't in my vocabulary. But this CD came along, managed to take a perfectly rotten mood, and neutralize it, replacing it with a quiet calmness I almost never feel. Suzanne plays a variety of less-heard but CERTAINLY not less-deserving flutes, and makes a very strong argument for significantly more music for these beautiful instruments. I don't have a favorite piece yet, but my attention is naturally drawn to the contrabass flute piece ("Loltun") and it makes a good "sun" around which the other pieces orbit like planets. The instrumentation is sparse, but it doesn't need to be lush; in fact, I think that would ruin the intimacy this CD makes me feel. I VERY HIGHLY recommend this wonderful CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Balm for the Soul, October 4, 2007

This is a beautiful album featuring slow, soulful compositions played by an outstanding flautist. If you find yourself at the end of a hectic day with a troubled soul, or a mind that refuses to wind down, put this CD on, lean back in your favorite chair, and let her flute wash over you. It is a rich, beautiful, peaceful, meditation. Her "Mystic Journey" CD is also outstanding, containing songs similar to these as well as others that are more playful and lively. I highly recommend them both.
