2.0 out of 5 stars UNEVENLY RESEARCHED
All I can say is that it's a shame that the great Rankin & Bass cartoons do not receive a more fitting treatment than in this thinly researched book. Okay, perhaps "uneven" better describes it than "thin." Missing is any in-depth look at how the specials were created and at the lives of those involved in the projects. My hat's off to Mr...

5.0 out of 5 stars An old Holiday friend returns, June 4, 2002
This review is from: The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass (Paperback)
The Rankin/Bass animagic Holiday specials are as much a part of my childhood memories as putting up the tree, hanging the stockings and painting the eggs.

It is nice to see Rick Goldschmidt drag them from the foggy haze of my nostalgia and bring them back into the light. I never new that there was so much information on Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass. "The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass" has it all, from the most obscure cel animated cartoon to the classic animagic of Rudolph and Santa.

Everything you could want is here: Behind the scenes photographs, a complete list of Rankin/Bass works, well-written articles and a jumble of Rankin/Bass memorabilia. This book is even more relevant, now that the Rankin/Bass filmography is being released on DVD. It will make you chomp at the bit for each new release.

If Peter Cottontail, The Snow Miser and Heat Miser, Frosty the Snowman and Happy the Christmas Baby ("those ears!") ring any bells for you, then you will enjoy "The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass."

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bouncing Icebergs!, October 23, 2000

Rick Goldschmidt has done an UTTERLY SUPERB job in creating his incandescently splendid book, "The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass!" Not only is it a unique goldmine of information about the studio and its magnificent writers and artists and musicians, it is also the single most gloriously illustrated book I have EVER seen! I've had the book for two years, and every time I look at it, I'm STILL bowled over by the incomparable beauty of the photographs depicting the various films made by Rankin/Bass. The gorgeous quality of the photographic reproductions is UNMATCHED by any other book I've EVER seen! (How'd you do it, Rick?!?) In sum, this book is bright, brilliant, effulgent, lambent, luminous, lustrous, refulgent, shiny, bewitching, charming, enthrallong, entrancing, spellbinding, fascinating, lovely, delightful, coruscating, gleaming, glimmering, glinting, glistening, glittering, scintillating, shimmering, twinkling, winkling, peppy, pert, spirited, sparkling, resplendent, sumptuous, ebullient, exuberant, joyous, and marvelous! BRAVO!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTABULOUS BOOK!!, October 14, 2000
By
This is one of my favorite books, EVER! When I found out that this book existed, it was a happy day! Born in 1970, I grew up watching all of these shows and they became a huge part of my life. Even having read the book, I still get it out every Christmas to re-read about the shows as I watch them. There are more illustrations in here than I could possibly take the time to count! My four year old loves to look at it, too. This book can even help you identify some of the specials you only have a vague remembrance of - it's all here! If you, like me, find yourself singing the "Heat-miser/Snow-miser song" in the middle of the summer, than buy this book today!!

How can anyone not buy this book,I will buy it today, but even without it Rankin Bass has given us all great memories of such classics as Rudolph and Frosty and there characters still live on today through many promotions such as the new beanies that are out.Rick Goldschmidt should be commended greatly for letting everyone enjoy once more the magic that is Rankin/Bass.The only shame is the company that now owns the various products Rudolph,Frosty and others did not leave the Rankin Bass ending logos at the end of the video when they reproduced them on video and dvd.5 stars go out To Rick and Tiger Mountain Press for keeping an old standby Ranking Bass in our memories and thoughts.ScottDenny

Hey boys & girls of all ages!Rick Goldschmidt has written a book that I've been waiting for since I was a young boy! I grew up with the classic R/B TV specials, & of course one of my FAVORITE movies; Mad Monster Party! This book is a dream come true. It is informative, with many GREAT photo's! It's an exhaustive overview of R/B's history. Rick's love for R/B clearly shines through in this project. Hats off to Rick & Tiger Mt. press for being smart & brave enough to publish this book when no one else tried! Anyone whose enjoyed the R/B shows will enjoy this book just as much, as they recall favorite childhood memories! Thanks Mr. Goldschmidt! Here's to hoping your next book pushes the R/B envelope a little further! I look forward to it's being published in the not too distant future.
