5.0 out of 5 stars amazing, March 18, 2008
This review is from: Enclosure (Hardcover)
You will not look at rocks, sticks, ice, leaves or water the same way after you read this (or any) of his books. It's mezmerizing to see the way these common objects we would walk right by turn into sublime art. Also worth checking out the DVD "Rivers and Tides". Just wonderful, and the polar opposite of the slick, mass produced art out there today.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Living Master Artist, June 20, 2010

This review is from: Enclosure (Hardcover)
We look to our past and admire the great masters of modern art like Van gogh, Picasso, Matisse, Pollack, Moore. How they made us see art in a new context. And we look around and to the future for the next great artist who shall enlighten our vision. He is right here. Right in front of us. A non-destructive consciouness expanding master of art.

This book is a wonder of his works. Beautifully illustrated wonderfully discussed. A great book. Learn what moves this land art genius. Get to know his genuine down to earth nature.

So why dose major fame elude him. Firstly he is not out to sell himself. Hes not part of the madison avenue Guggenheim mentality. Secondly alot of his works are temporary. Actually ment to be digested back into nature. So all we have is a photographic history. So big shot collectors can't buy that yellow ring of leaves or arranged pile of stones on the beach. But you can expeience the beauty through these great books.

A thousand years from now when history looks back upon our time of modern art and modern vision Andy Goldsworthy shall be at the top of an elite group of determined pioneers.

Photo book on the primitive stone arrangements in Scotland. Excellent photography of these archaic sites with modern additions... sensational color and nature photography. Highly recommended.

Enclosure is the latest book collection of Andy Goldsworthy's work. Goldsworthy is an ephemeral artist, who works with items in nature, such as rocks, leaves, snow, and even the rain as it falls on the ground.

While Enclosure repeats some of the work that can be found in Goldsworthy's other book, Arch, Enclosure gives more details and insight into how Andy Goldsworthy plans his works and executes his sculptures. Enclosure focuses primarily on Goldsworthy's project to recreate sheepfolds in Northwest England. Not only did Goldsworthy rebuild many of these folds so that they could fulfill their intended purpose, but he also took into account the history of the land and its people in his shape and design. Throughout the book is a diary account that gives great insight into the thought process of the artist at work and the planning of this monumental sculpture.

Enclosure typifies Goldsworthy's books showcasing his thought process, sketches, and photographs of his work in process. It is a great addition to any fan of Andy Goldsworthy or of ephemeral art.
