Not only can this software be downloaded anytime for free, but you must pay at least $25 to continue participation with Webshots, which is not worth a penny. They provide absolutely no customer support (they are totally and completely incommunicado, even to Premium subscribers who use their contact dialogue to send messages), and their screensaver is defective. It fails to activate automatically when your keyboard is idle for the specified time period. You are likely to find after you return to your computer, even days later, that the screensaver provided no protection during the duration of your away time. You may also notice that they systematically delete all of their downloadable files, such that not a single image from some months is available.

I bought this software on impulse at a office supply warehouse store. The box says the disc includes 2,000 images and implies access to 400 million more images. The requirements say that the user is responsible for Internet access fees and phone charges, which sounds like ISP and dial-up phone fees to me.

It turns out the software appears to be the same software that can be downloaded from the website for free (with a few sample images). It also seems like the boxed software does not include membership to the premium content on the web site. You have to sign up for a free account to access the site, but that doesn't require this product. So unless one of those things is not true what you are buying here is the 2,000 images. Unless those images are not available on the site it might make more sense to join the webshots site for $2.50/month and download collections of images you want.

This product might be appropriate for someone that does not have broadband Internet access. I would have been more satisfied with the product if it was either less than $10 or if it included six or more months of premium web site content access.
