Product Description

From Children's Software Revue® -- "Subscribe Now!"

Sister program to Sesame Street Preschool Learning Basics, this CD is similarly designed. The Sesame Street gang hosts five activity areas, and within each area are several activities that generally become more difficult as the child plays. There are letter and number activities, shape games, a limited art area and a "People in Your Neighborhood" area where kids can watch full screen videos of a doctor, a farmer, a barber and so on. In general, this is a likable program, especially with its fantastic license and its terrific graphics and animation. The depth of content is a strength (several of the activities branch on and on), but the characters talk too much and overuse praise, and there's no way to click through all this unnecessary commentary. We also want to caution that this is a program that requires some basic mouse skills. Children need to be able to point and click, a challenge for many toddlers. One very nice feature is the program's ability to say your child's name-- Big Bird will greet and congratulate the child by name. Go with Reader Rabbit Toddler for a better "first" computer experience. Sesame Street Toddler is best for children with solid mouse skills.

This review is from: Sesame Street Toddler (CD-ROM)
My two-year-old son really enjoyed the Sesame Street Infant software. I figured the Toddler software would also be a big hit. I was very wrong. First of all, his name was pronounced wrong, but he thought that was very funny. The program is very slow to respond. One of the games doesn't work. I get a CD error message. It's clearly not what I expected. I think Encore tried to put too many bells and whistles into this program and lost focus. There's no flow, the games are too easy and they take too much time too process. My two-year-old doesn't have the patience to wait for the items to download. We'll stick to the games on the Sesame Street website from now on.

5.0 out of 5 stars We love it!, November 26, 2002
This review is from: Sesame Street Toddler (CD-ROM)
Our son is only 2 1/2 and he sails through most of the games. He has no problems clicking on things. In fact, what we like the most about it is that it doesn't matter if you right or left click. Most programs only let you left click. He has learned colors, shapes, letters, sounds of some letters, numbers and how to count from this program. It is easy for him to pick and choose the activites he wants to play. He gets frustrated with other programs. He giggles to no end listening to Cookie Monster and Elmo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Game!!, November 23, 2002
This review is from: Sesame Street Toddler (CD-ROM)
We are a big computer family and have tried many many games (including Reader Rabbit, Jumpstart, Little People, Living Books, and quite a few more), and this one is still my personal favorite. We have never experienced any problems with this game, and I was surprised to read the previous reviews. Perhaps these users had incompatible computer platforms? We have Windows XP and a very fast system, but this game also worked great on a lesser system, using Windows ME.

This game is packed with activities to choose from, and my almost 3 year old has mastered most of them, after about 8 months. Pretty good life for a computer game in our home! There are games that work on letter and numeral recognition, phonics sounds, colors, shapes, dual attributes, same & different, recognizing community helpers, and creative collage style art. The game automatically adjusts to become more difficult or easier to match your child's skill level. My son absolutely loves this game and is enthralled when Big Bird says his name (an unusual name, too, but pronounced correctly!). Our 14 month old daughter is just beginning to show some interest in the game, too, but we will wait until she is 18 months before letting her play. Excellent game!!
