What is Scrabble Chamion Edition JC,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Scrabble Champion Edition (Software)
Before buying this software, I checked through the internet to find out exactly what this new software is and how it differs from the older edition. I had no luck. I wanted to be sure that it ran on Vista and this was the only edition on Amazon's site stating that it was Vista compatible.
Hence I ordered it. The box and the software do not use "JC" in the name. It looks like the same old software sold to meet Vista. From an operating point of view, I wish it didn't "take over" the computer screen, as it can not be minimized to work on anything else while it is active. The game plays fine and I'll compare it to a "fee" download that gives you 30 minutes of playing time as a trial before asking for $20 for a license key. This is half the price for basically the same thing. For the money and the enjoyment, it's worth the price.

Works fine for me in Windows 7,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Scrabble Champion Edition (Software)
I installed the software onto a new HP desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I got an error message immediately after the installation (telling me to do something in Window's Device Manager, which I saw no way of doing in the Device Manager for Windows 7), but when I (finally) ignored the message and double clicked on the shortcut that was installed on my desktop, the game opened right up. And I can play it without any problem (no error messages or anything) without having the disk in the drive.
It is the same Scrabble edition that is available through "HP Games Powered by Wild Tangent," a link to which came installed on my computer. That option requires players to buy digital coins which are used to play individual games of Scrabble. Or you can purchase the software from HP Games Powered by Wild Tangent for twenty eight dollars and ninety four cents (includes a "backup disk"). Here at Amazon I paid six dollars and change for the same version of Scrabble (since then the seller has raised the price to nine dollars and change). My CD came in a cheap cardboard jewel case, but the case is irrelevant to me as long as the disk is protected. I have or at least had an older version of Scrabble software for the PC (made for Windows 95 as I recall), where an effort was made to give the playing board a three dimensional appearance, which detracted from the game, IMO. In addition, that version was not playable unless the CD was in the drive. I'm very pleased with the layout of the Scrabble Champion Edition, and I find it easy on the eyes (you can play it in one of two sizes - full screen - but not widescreen - or a reduced version). It's fast too, meaning that the computer opponent doesn't take long to make its moves. Can't be played online against human opponents, but one can play against other humans on the same computer. It's a challenge for me at the "Veteran" level (there are eight levels: Beginner, Apprentice, Intermediate, Veteran, Smart, Elite, Master, and Genius). I like it. I find it addictive. I have to force myself to stop playing. Being able to play online would be nice, but for what I paid for the software I have no complaints. I want to play another game right now. I have other things that I need to attend to, but...

For Scrabble Junkies,
By Ryan (Lynchburg, VA) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Scrabble Champion Edition (Software)
For those of you who cannot get enough Scrabble, this game is for you. It has about seven or eight different levels (the hardest level is impossible), with a classic game against the computer with dictionary help and best move help. It also has a timed tournament game that takes the help features away. It keeps track of all your high scores and dates. Works on Vista.
