2.0 out of 5 stars Inferior to earlier versions November 7, 2011
I bought this game many years ago back in my Windows 98 days, and it was responsible for hours of family fun. I couldn't play it on my last computer--it crashed it all the time, so when I finally replaced that desktop, I decided to track down the latest version suitable for Windows 7, and downloaded it from the Encore site.

First of all, as has been mentioned, it took literally hours to download this product. I don't know exactly how long, because I couldn't sit there all day watching it so I had to abort it once, and then start it again another day, and I just left it, went to work, and came back and it was more or less complete. I downloaded Windows 7 and installed it in about a half hour. How could this program take so much longer? It was insane.

Then the first few times I opened the program and started the face maker, it crashed the computer. For whatever reason, that doesn't seem to happen anymore, but it was frustrating.

I really miss the Let it Ride game that was available in earlier versions. I do not understand why they'd replace a great interactive game like that with a few different mindless slot machines. I see Caribbean Stud is gone too, and although I didn't like that one as much, it was still a better game than all these extra slot machines are. And then with all that, the video poker is no better than it was before.

It's still kind of fun, but nothing like the magic of the earlier versions. They've taken away rather than added anything in the latest version.

1.0 out of 5 stars Windows 98 graphics and buggy December 23, 2011
Back in the 90's I was an avid Hoyle Casino fan. It gave me great practice before my Vegas trips and I could set myself up for my budget to see how well I could do. Other than the fact that it wouldn't run in the graphics mode of my machine, I still loved it. It was solid and I could sit and play for hours.

Fast forward 15 years... I hadn't played Hoyle after quite some time and after getting back into some of the card games on Facebook, I figured I would get the latest version of Hoyle. It was an incredibly long download from their site (an hour or more for only 1.5 gig), which then said that it required the Direct X 2010 FULL SDK to install. So then I had to wait another half hour to an hour for the installer to go and download that and install it. I literally sat in my living room and watched a movie while this thing got all of its pieces together. I was stunned to see it install the full SDK instead of just the latest runtime. Needless to say, I figured if I had to go through all of that and install the latest SDK, this should be awesome.

So when I fired it up, I couldn't believe what I saw. Not only does this software utilize nothing from the latest direct X, it hasn't changed the interface one bit, other than removing all the cool stuff that was in my version back in the 90's. Things like looking down on the casino floor and walking around to the different games and rooms (yeah, that's gone). The graphics and audio are exactly the same with the same 8-bit avatars and the same dealer and player voices, which are now full of static because I thing they are like 4 or 8k mono sound files. Nothing was updated, other than the fact that it is now completely buggy and can't figure out what money I am supposed to be betting and then placing it where I didn't click.

1.0 out of 5 stars 2012 NO BETTER !!!! September 10, 2011

What a huge disappointment this game is. Previous versions of this game were so much fun. This version is no fun whatsoever. You used to be able to walk around the casino and choose what games to play. In this version, there is a very boring main menu where you choose the game to play. Also, the game opens up in a very small window and is not friendly to big displays. Installation took forever and I have a quad core computer with 8 GB of memory. No Caribbean Stud, Let it Ride or a Poker Room are just a few of the games that are missing. Save your hard earned money on this one. This is $20 I will never see again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Casino November 21, 2011
By REG
The software would lock up continually. Reloaded and had no better results. The craps table did not correctly register the chip placement and would therefore not pay out correctly. Disappointing to say the least. Would not recommend this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this product February 15, 2012

The CD wouldn't load. I tried four times on two different computers. Then, it finally loaded partially but the games would get stuck in a loop. A pop-up would appear that says the program has stopped running and it bombed off. Worse, I couldn't UNINSTALL it! It took three tries to dump it off the computer. The tech support people don't pick up. I was on hold for more than 20 minutes. I got this because I'm running Windows 7 and I don't see anything else out there. But the software sucks and I'm disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars The game cheats! February 11, 2012
By cheat, I don't mean that the program will cause you to lose 'money.' On the contrary, it will add money to your total. In craps, it will create phantom bets that will boost your winnings. Also, unless you are very aware of your score, the program will occasionally add a few bucks to your total. Is this bad? Well, if you just want a feel-good game, then this might be the game for you. But if you want to play craps and perfect your strategy by playing this game, the game will give you extra winnings and you will feel great. When you go to Las Vegas, you will have to play at a real craps table and sadly, you will discover that your strategy is flawed. Now admittedly, I discovered that the phantom winnings were only craps. But if one area of the game is flawed, can you trust the rest of it? I suspect that the whole game might be rigged to favor the player to entice a would-be gambler to bet big in Vegas. Is that so odd? I don't think so. Imagine big money being used to 'rig' this game to favor the player and to fill her with a false expectancy. Lastly, when I posted to the Hoyle game forum and said that there might be a flaw in the game, my post was deleted because I was "not promoting the Hoyle community."
