Editorial Reviews

Review

During our family's 2006 visit to Rome, then-seminarian Jeffrey Kirby guided us on a fascinating visit to St. Peter s Basilica. His knowledgeable, enthusiastic tour was one of the highlights of our trip. In this book, he offers the fruit of his experiences to a broader audience, offering not only substantive and interesting history and theology, but also spiritual insights reflected in the lasting solidity and beauty of St. Peter's, insights that will nourish the faith of all readers, whether they're planning a trip or simply want to understand the richness of Catholicism in greater depth." --Amy Welborn, Author and Catholic Blogger

This book is a marvelous guide that will equally serve both the visitor or pilgrim to Rome. It serves not only as a tour guide of St. Peter's Basilica and Square, but also as a very concise history of the early church, Imperial, Medieval, Renaissance, and Modern Rome, and of the evolution of St. Peter's itself through those periods. Fr. Kirby does a splendid job of taking the visitor and pilgrim not only on a journey through history, but on a rich spiritual journey as well. The book will certainly be with me on my next visit to St. Peter's Basilica. --Dr. Kimberly Georgedes, PhD, Franciscan University, Steubenville, OH

This book is very informative and easy to read. It is especially helpful for people touring the Basilica or who have done so in the past. The specific structures described give the reader a more vivid image.

Having just returned from Rome and the Basilica San Pietro, I found this to be an interesting book. As a Catholic, I am admittedly not as tuned into the religious side as I ought to be. After attending and ordination in the Basilica as well as going through the Scavi tour, this added some important spiritual context. For non-Catholics, this would be interesting from a symbolism standpoint.
