I think the best thing I loved was the narrative style. It reads like a progression through life, like real life. It's the interactions between the author and the randomness that is the most readable point. Nubia paints a good scene, it's a scene that comes alive.
Sometimes because it's more of a collection of stories it may for some people feel disjointed but I think for most the transition from one story to the other would be quite easy to follow and she divides it into sections such as subway stories and stories above ground (not in the subway).
The best thing is that it's just so damn funny and this is where the author has her strength. Actually I give it 4 1/2 stars but the rating system won't let me do that. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a nice light funny read about a great city with some crazy people.
I found myself reminiscing and saying "I remember that" or "I've seen that person/place/thing before."
Great read, wildly entertaining and the lesson that your parents never taught you about talking to strangers.
The book will be a perfect gift for my city friends this holiday season.
Edit: I read the paperback version. Not the Kindle Version

A great collection of humorous stories that I can relate to as a daily rider on the city bus.Published 6 months ago by Amazon Customer
This book was OK, but didn't really keep me engaged. It is a collection of tales about people the author meets along life's path. Read morePublished 12 months ago by Nina R D
This series of very short recitations of 'encounters' is entertaining and mildly amusing. Reinforced my lack of desire for a return visit to NYC! Read morePublished 12 months ago by Bevan

I guess it's because the author clearly has no understanding or empathy for people with mental illness. We cannot all lead healthy, charmed lives. Life gets messy sometimes. Read morePublished 14 months ago by Sleeper1961
Lovely vignettes shared with a gift of humor. Makes me want to spend more time people watching for the fun of it. I look forward to reading more from this author.Published 15 months ago by Linda
I really expected so much more entertainment. It was funny for the most part but, some of this was quit campy and left me wanting to know more. Read morePublished 15 months ago by Amazon Customer
