This is the way life should be and probably is, except we can't hear our own story being told. Miss Read is the most awesome "feel good" writer I've ever read. Her descriptions of people and things are clear to the point of my feeling I'm there in the village of Thrush Green. I feel as though I know all the characters after having read all the Thrush Green stories. If you ever want to have a sweet night's rest, read these while lying in bed. Such peace even though there are problems in the lives of the villagers. A wonderful way to escape, if that's what you need, but a great way to feel that life is meant to be lived with joy and hope. There are lessons to be had from reading these stories.
