5.0 out of 5 stars Verdi comes to life., November 15, 2012
This review is from: Encounters with Verdi (Paperback)
If you like Verdi this is a truly wonderful book. The man comes to life before your eyes.

Journalists and admirers tell of their meetings or interviews with Verdi, or watching him in rehearsal, from early in his career to his final days.

What becomes clear is the shy, modest genius who was happy to talk about his contemporaries and his favourite composers and writers, such as Beethoven and Shakespeare, but hated to talk about himself or his work.

His passion for music and his philosophy are in clear evidence, and more than any biography I have read you really get a feel of the great man himself.

A book to read and re-read.
