Editorial Reviews

This extremely brutal death metal band originated from Panama. Encryptor was a side band of Phil Diaz of Sorrowstorm. Two very rare official full length recordings by Encryptor got re-edited and re-mastered by Mexican extreme music label Alcance Subterraneo Productions, who re-issued them on one CD early in 2006. Drowning In the Flesh was originally released in 2001, and Sermon Decay was originally released in 2003. A slightly different version of this re-issue was also released April, 2005, on Bombworks Records in the USA with different cover art. Songs include: 'Infernal Catastrophy,' 'Post Mortem Soul,' 'Prophecy Of Infinity,' 'Portal Of Demonic Torment,' 'The Price Of Submission,' 'Into the Lives Of the Unblessed,' 'Misfortuned At Birth,' 'Drowning In Ignorance,' 'Rebrutalization,' 'Sermon Decay,' 'Horrific Engenderment,' 'Vomit Congregation,' 'Everything Must Decompose,' 'Bloodflow Towards Salvation,' and 'He Was Beheaded.' 15 songs 8-page insert w/lyrics

This is the Christian brutal death metal band Encryptor's 2006 release which is a best of compilation containing 15 tracks from their number of previous releases.

I should start be saying that Encryptor is a one man project headed by Felipe Diez who plays every instrument and does all of the vocals himself. This disc consists almost entirely of chunky mid-paced rhythms in which the tempo very seldom gets changed up and if so it's very minimal at best. This is largely due to the limitations of Diez's drumming skills which are sluggish and rather mediocre. I mean he keeps good time and everything; he's just not a very fast drummer by any stretch of the imagination.

He's guitar playing however is rather good and he seems to be a pretty decent song writer as well. The riffs are chugging and even eerie at times which helps this album quite a bit actually. You can just feel the legions of hell being crushed with each slow and punishing rhythm.

The vocals are very akin to the style of Deicide's front man Glen Benton which also helps make up for the marginally average drumming displayed here. Diez easily goes from a very low and guttural tone to high pitched shrieks very skillfully which shows he is a very competent death metal vocalist. The production is very raw and a bit muddy yet suits the musical style quite well as it comes off more "brutal" sounding.

This is by no means a bad album, just far from great. I would still recommend it for fans of slow and crushing brutal death metal as this CD adequately satisfies an appetite for such a subgenre.
