5.0 out of 5 stars High quality printing
This is exactly the same as the FAA's "Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge," (FAA-H-8083-25) but this is a commercial reprint by Skyhorse Publishing and it uses better paper (thicker/glossier) than the FAA's printed version, so I highly recommend this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Obsolete Edition
The FAA released a newer edition of this book in June 2008

Look for FAA-8083-25A Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge.

AS a CFI I recommend this book as it is one of the sources of information for the pilots written test and it is easy to read and understand. I continually reference this work for my teaching and flying career. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything a pilot needs to know!, April 4, 2007

This review is from: Pilot's Encyclopedia of Aeronautical Knowledge (Paperback)
This hefty book contains everything a pilot needs to know, either at the amateur or professional level. It truly is encyclopedic and it's loaded with illustrations. If you're a pilot or an aeronautical buff, this guide is definitely a must-own.

3.0 out of 5 stars Duplicate of Similarly titled book, October 13, 2008

This review is from: Pilot's Encyclopedia of Aeronautical Knowledge (Paperback)
The page numbering, layout, etc are all exactly the same as the FAA's "Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge". The updates of both books are pretty much lockstep; however, this edition omits the FAA book number which is FAA-H-8083-25. The cover is the same. The ONLY difference is that the rear cover of the "Encyclopedia" edition has graphics printed.

I didn't really care TOO much except the "Encyclopedia" edition uses heavier stock paper, making the book thicker and heavier. My study bag is already heavy enough, so I took the FAA standard edition instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not even an FAA Title, June 11, 2008
This review is from: Pilot's Encyclopedia of Aeronautical Knowledge (Paperback)
The FAA does not have a publication by this title. To say this is copyrighted material is a stretch. Everything in the book is from the FAA Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge which was published as printed in this book in 2003 and is not copyrighted since our tax dollars pay for it. The content is great. It covers everything a pilot needs to know to pass knowledge tests and demonstrate proficiency. All the FAA publications to this. But Sky Horse does not have any right to copyright anything in it. Certainly not a right to claim it is more recent that what the FAA or others print.
