An excellent reference CD,

The description says it clearly - excellent photos, hardiness, watering needs - this CD has it all. There is information on this CD that is difficult, if not impossible to find anywhere else.I confess that I will probably use this CD little because... it's a CD - it's simply not as convenient as a book for quickly looking something up - maybe if I had a laptop or something... I actually bought the CD only to support the site on which it is based: www.desert-tropicals.com, which has a subset of the info on the CD and makes a great preview of what the CD has to offer. I have used the website as a reference on several occasions - would have been stuck without it, so I am encouraging anyone who has ever used that site to buy the CD. It is possible to buy this CD directly from www.desert-tropicals.com, but I prefer using Amazon.com because I trust Amazon's server and privacy policies - I have never regretted doing business with Amazon.com.

Very comprehesive piece of work,

Great piece of work - extremely comprehensive. The photos are mainly nursery specimens, so tend to be immature plants, but its still a great catalogue and good value.

Lacking any pretence at being scientific literature this CD is no less useful. It is a compilation of linked HTML pages so a web browser is useful to view it. This makes cross references and name lookup relatively fast. The photos are perhaps its strongest asset. If you see a name somewhere you can usually look it up, see if the name is current or a pseudonym and see a very high quality photo. This is particularly helpful if you have only passing familiarity with a genus or species.
The only drawback to this CD is the lack of a taxonomic key for identifying items. Since it would seem that a computer is uniquely suited to assist in the taxonomic identification of these unique plants this is unfortunate. I would strongly encourage the author to consider this addition in subsequent releases. This would make the CD truly invaluable

This is great. I needed a book to classificate my cactus collection and they all are very expensive. I found this Encyclopedia at Amazon and it is really good. There are many species of cactus and succulents, with pictures and explanation about them.
It is really good and I have to study it more.
