5.0 out of 5 stars I Love This Book!, August 16, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds (Paperback)
Even though I'm a kid, I usually do better with "adult" formated books. This one is one of my favorites. I can go to it over and over again and NEVER get bored of it. Friends beg me to let them borrow it or look at it.
Wether you're a doggy novice, A skilled and seasoned canine expert with lots of experience, or just a dog info "hound", never having had a dog (like me), this book is the one for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Four Star General Discussion of Dog Breeds, June 24, 2008
The ENCYCLOPEDIA OF DOG BREEDS is full of interesting facts and pictures. It is a nice collection for a coffee table. Now it can be obtained at little expense.

There are disappointments though. Sometimes the pictures are not labeled. There are articles discussing many breeds at once. The reader is left to guess which breed is featured in the picture.

Since poodles are very popular, they should be discussed as a separate category. Instead, they are mentioned incidentally. Poodles are fine dogs and their popularity does not lessen their value.

There seems to be an emphasis on the less comon breeds of dogs. While it does add to our education about dogs, it is not representative of the kinds of dogs people have and want to read about.

Anyway, it is a fun book to pick up and read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Interesting, April 4, 2005
This review is from: The Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds (Paperback)
This book contained some very interesting facts concerning the history of dogs, along with facts about the differences in their
anatomy, care of the dog, brief descriptions of nearly 400 breeds, along with about 1000 nice pictures. I enjoyed the book, especially some of the poems in the book and I found many of the historical facts fascinating.

4.0 out of 5 stars just O.K., March 10, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds (Paperback)
I am also a kid but dogs are the most important thing to me. one main thing you have to know about this book is that it is the british version. This means thet the groups are as folowed... the pastral, gundog ,hound, utility, terrier, toy, and working. All of the breeds in the world are here even the standard hybrids such as the cockupoo and laberdootal.great disctipions on all of the breads! Most dogs have eather a half of even a whole page.each breed comes with a discription including there past and there standars hight/weight. also includs breed facts, coat care, siza(small mediun large extra large),feeding and pictures. I absolutly thinks the pictures are not good. The dont show of the true iportance of each breed. for instance the pic. of the rhodesian ridgeback, which is known for its ridged back, only shows its head not its star quality.they also have people in them are are from a distance.other than that this book is very colorful and educatinal. in addition the first few chapters have very usful info on dog care and history. BUy this book!!! just remember about the pictures :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressed my dog friends!, March 20, 2009
I love it! I would love to see even MORE info on each breed, but then the book would be huge. It even covers dogs like Sarplanics & Ovcharks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting Dog Book!, June 30, 2008
I found this book fascinating. I am not a dog person so I don't know a lot about dogs. I have the cat encyclopedia in my classroom but students have asked me about dogs and since they come from other countries, it is nice to look at the dogs they are talking about in their country. I learned from this book and was fascinated by the history of dogs. I still am confused about dog breeding and will never understand until I see it and discuss it with a dog breeder. It's just totally confusing to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars many dog breeds, January 26, 2008

The great thing about this book to me is the number of breeds in it. I have found dogs in this book that I cannot find in most books. There are pictures of every breed. I'm always looking up information on different breeds. It is a british dog book. But the information is good just the same. There is a lot of good information it the front 185 pages of the book.Anatomy, health, history, showing to name a few subjects. With 183 pages on the breeds. I got this book for a great price. This book is a good book for any dog lover out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very Good Dog Book, April 26, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds (Paperback)
With over 400 dog breeds, I'd have to say this is a 5. Nice photographs, interesting info on history and breeds, with lots of sections: Anatomy, terminology, care and managment, health and breeding, history, arts, the human world/dogs, showing dogs, classifying dogs, British dog breeds (including sections gundog group, hound group, pastoral group, terrier group, toy group, utility group, and working group) and other breeds sorted by country. If you are looking for a book with a list of dog breeds and history altogether, then this is the book for you. I think it is very helpful in making a dog website like me.
