5.0 out of 5 stars Very inspirational, April 5, 2000

A gem for embroiderers who like using their creativity more than following patterns. Brown does not only show many different stitches and techniques, but also, in the last chapter, beautiful photographs of the work of true needle artists. The feeling I get from this book is that I too, with a bit of practice and fantasy, can make such wonderful things. I reach for this book many times!

5.0 out of 5 stars Includes FORTY Pages (!!!!) of Fabulous Masterpieces...., September 30, 2008

I'm a guy non-sewer, but I do have an eye for art, and no matter how good other embroidery books may be, this one is a must-have for the comprehensive portfolio section in the back alone. What embroiderer can have too many examples of master works to inspire the next project?

4.0 out of 5 stars Which stitch to use?, February 22, 2008

This review is from: The Encyclopedia of Embroidery Techniques: A Comprehensive Visual Guide to Traditional and Contemporary Techniques (Paperback)
This book gives a good introduction to several different styles of embroidery. It cannot compare to the wonderful Mary Thomas's Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches but it comes in as a good second choice. Clear and easily understood instructions.
