About the Author

Jeff Belanger leads a very haunted life. He's been fascinated with the supernatural since age 10, when he investigated his first haunted house during a sleepover. Since then, he's been a writer and journalist for various newspapers and magazines, and in 1999 he launched Ghostvillage.com as a repository for his writings on the subject of the supernatural. The Website has since grown to become the largest paranormal community on the Web, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors per year. He currently haunts Bellingham, Massachusetts, with his wife, Megan. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

More About the Author

History, belief, and folklore combine to create paranormal legends that challenge what we know about how the universe works. But are these legends more than just stories? What can we learn about ourselves in exploring the unexplained? Meet Jeff Belanger, the ultimate paranormal insider.

There's a relationship between ghosts, UFOs, Bigfoot, strange monsters, ancient mysteries, and other bizarre phenomena. These concepts offer us a path to our past, a connection with our fellow human beings in our present, and a way to ponder our own inevitable future. Though no one can explain exactly how it all works, few can match Jeff's ability to bring the odd out of the fringe and into our living rooms and near our office water coolers.

Belanger's approach is fun and informative. He brings a lot of personality and knowledge to his work. He's the author of a dozen books that have been published in six languages, he's the writer and researcher for the Ghost Adventures show on the Travel Channel, the host of the widely popular Web and cable talk show 30 Odd Minutes, he's a sought-after lecturer who speaks at dozens of events per year for audiences big and small, and he's a recognized media personality appearing on over 200 radio and television programs worldwide including: The History Channel, The Travel Channel, PBS, Living TV (UK), The Maury Show, The CBS News Early Show, National Public Radio, The BBC, Australian Radio Network, Coast to Coast AM, and The 'X' Zone.

Finally!

I love this book -- I've been ghost hunting for years now and I can't believe it took this long to see a directory come out that's written by the actual ghost hunters. I only wish there were more locations in my state, but I guess if the book covered every haunted location there is with this level of detail the book would be about a million pages. I also love some of the ghost photos with some of the entries!

I love Jeff Belanger! He does great presentations and his books are excellent! I read this on a plane to California from Cincinnati and just couldn't put it down! They were short descriptions about haunted places! One could be your hometown??!!

This is a great book to start with,if you are interested in researching haunted places. Most of the supernatural locales are from within the USA ,some from Canada ,the UK,Australia, and Europe. The book is over 350 pages long. Many list websites ,for further reading information.I felt that this encyclopedia on paranormal places offered a wealth of ghostly facts and haunted histories. It's more about spirited American dwellings, rather than other global haunts though. If you're fascinated by tales of strange energy forces, passing light orbs, and visiting poltergeists ; then read this informative book and make it a trusted reference on postmortem encounters.

This is an excellent book for beginner paranormal student or those with paranormal interests. It is also an extensive collection of haunted locations that are typically found in individual books, so purchasing this book can save you money. Although the book tries to include world-wide locations, its focus is mainly the United States. I would imagine that readers interested in foreign haunted locations would be disappointed with this book. Still, I recommended it full heartedly for use as starting source of paranormal investigations. There are more reportedly haunted places than one can imagine!

This book is a bit more informative with it's text and local addresses. The ghost lore and hauntings are better but i still think they need to devote a little more text involving more of the reported phenomena and hauntings that have taken place. Interesting text with the people who have investigated the haunted locations, but it needs more details to give the reader a bigger sense of the spook factor.

Encyclopedia of Haunted Places is full of information about haunted places throughout the United States. Conveniently organized by region (New England, Pacific Northwest, etc.), you can find something near you (or near where you're vacationing - when you get bored with the traditional tourist crap).

Also makes an interesting read for those who just want to know some ghostly trivia.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about (or hunting for) ghosts.

There are so many different writers in this book it's almost insane. So if you're looking for a real flavor of Jeff Belanger, you won't find it 100% in this book. However, the people that write about some of these haunted places are very well informed and have done their homework. It's really interesting to hear the stories and encounters of all these people not only across the country but all over the world. I would buy this book again if it were ever lost or stolen. It's a cool thing to have.
