5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Guileyopedia!, April 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Encyclopedia of Magic and Alchemy (Paperback)
This is the fifth "Guileyopedia" as I started calling them due to how many she has written and how wonderful they all are. This Encylopedia goes into everything you want to know about new and old, black and white, famous and infomous, and whatever else your mind desires about the subject. I also enjoyed the little section on the Tarot. Two Thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic revealed, April 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Encyclopedia of Magic and Alchemy (Paperback)
This was a very informative book for anyone who is interested in the history of magic especially the alchemy section. This form of magic has been largely overlooked for many years. I have all of Ms. Guileys books and have been a fan from the first one as she has a true insight into the subject she is writing about. I recomend this book to anyone who is interested in learning something new or learning more about this subject.

Excellent. Chock-full of information--more than I ever thought there was about Magic & Alchemy. Extremely intriguing.

4.0 out of 5 stars books on alchemy and ancient history, January 28, 2010

(REAL NAME)
I disliked having to rate this item since I just ordered it and have yet to receive it. You see, I teach in China and receive my books through my business manager in Atlanta who forwards to me what I order through the Internet. I order many DVDs and books through Amazon and have yet to be disappointed with Amazon's integrity.

I heard about Rosemary Ellen Guiley by listening to a program aired on AOL Radio through my computer here in China. The radio station is CBS Psychic Radio/ The Sky, which I listen to almost as often as I listen to AM 1019 Progressive Radio out of Seattle. I decided to check her web site and was in awe to discover that she had written 41 books and hundred of articles. So I checked reviews here on Amazon. When I saw the covers of some of her books, I realized that I was familiar with some of her titles. I asked my manager back in the States to check many of my books still on the shelves at my US address, even those books on the long shelf in the kitchen.

I wanted to comment on what another book reviewer posted on Amazon. That person wrote: "I appreciate being provided confirmation of order and shipping and tracking information." Of course. That is the strength of this company.

I've written about 35 reviews of my own that have been posted by Amazon, so as soon as I have examined this book by Ms. Guiley, I will return and add to this review. I am just pleased that such books are still available and still taken seriously by readers and researchers. My PhD may be in British and American literature, as well as Film Studies, but I am an armchair researcher into classical (Greek and Roman) literature as well as mythology. I continue to do research into areas outside my PhD areas -- not only because I use materials to provide background and verisimilitude for my own novels but because I want to continue to expand my own horizons. When I was a graduate student, my learned professor told me that he had never known a student who had so many different interests. I told students here not long ago: When we are young, we think we know everything. It's when we get older that we realize how little we do know.
