Editorial Reviews

Review

"...a valuable addition to the Encyclopedia of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, which is a very useful tool..." (Journal of the American Chemical Society, Vol. 125, No. 12, 2003)

From the Publisher

The complete and preferred reference for anyone seeking information on any aspect of NMR, with emphasis on its interdisciplinary nature. The first volume details developments in the field since the technique's discovery in 1945. The remaining seven volumes cover the basic principles of NMR, review fundamental interactions governing nuclear spin properties, specialized methods for high-resolution spectra of liquids, solids and solutions, relaxation measurements, broadline NMR and magnetic resonance imaging. Includes extensive illustrations: photographs, line drawings, graphs and spectra (color used where appropriate). --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

The physicist (Birmingham, AL USA) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Encyclopedia of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Advances in NMR (Volume 9) (Hardcover)
Well,

I bought the original Encyclopaedia of NMR (8 volumes) several years ago and I found it
an excellent value for the money (It was pricey then, it's exorbitant now). But, I am
a professional physicist who specializes in NMR, so, it was a necessity, sort of...

The update (which I decided to buy after several years of hesitation) in the form of Volume 9,
is outrageously expensive and offers very little value for that money. I mean, it covers topics
so esoteric that I, a trained professional in this field, find them out of my radar screen; hands
down, each of the entries may interest a whopping group of maybe 100 people worldwide, and these groups do not overlap.

So now, I proudly say I have a compelete Encyclopaedia of NMR. I use if often and I like it very much. But I doubt I will ever need to crack open the Volume 9.

4.0 out of 5 stars 200 key papers, June 26, 2004
This is only the first volume of a nine volume set. It is the overview of some 50 years of research. Reprints of what the editors have considered to be the most influential of 200 papers on the subject. The original source documents. Invaluable to students of science and history.

All the key papers are here. For example, you can read Rudolf Mossbauer's own words on his research, for which he won the Nobel in record time - just a few years after his papers were published.

Worthy of belonging in a good scientific library.
