Book Description

December 1997
For over 40 years science fiction has provided television with both memorable and forgettable moments. "Doctor Who", "Star Trek", "The Prisoner" and Gerry Anderson's supermarionation puppets have attracted a devoted following who refuse to let their legends fade. Other series, such as "Space Patrol" and "Andromeda", have not been so fortunate, slipping into the twilight zone of archive television.;This A-Z guide to four decades of both good and bad science fiction on television has been revised and brought up to date to include recent successes such as "Quantum Leap", "Babylon 5", and the new "Star Trek" offspring, "Next Generation" and "Deep Space Nine".

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

As deputy editor of the British weekly TVTimes [sic], Fulton caters to the desires of four million channel surfers. In the third edition of this reference work, he delivers a spread meant to sate the appetites of sf viewers. Over 300 entries cover major series, one-shot productions, and animation shows. Most entries come with a brief introduction, followed by terse summaries of individual episodes. Cast lists and credits are also included. While entries lack the detail found in books like David Bassom's The A-Z Guide to Babylon 5 (Dell, 1997) or Bjo Trimble's Star Trek Concordance (Citadel: Carol Pub. Group, 1995), Fulton's work compensates by virtue of its scope. Unfortunately, his parameters are vague. Why provide entries for series that border on sf like Get Smart and Nowhere Man but not for Xena: Warrior Princess or Twin Peaks? One rival for comprehensiveness is Alan Morton's The Complete Directory to Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Television Series (Other Worlds, 1997). Despite its faults, this work should benefit larger public and academic libraries supporting sf research.?Neal Baker, Ball State Univ. Lib., Muncie, Ind.
