5.0 out of 5 stars My Personal Favorite, February 20, 2004

This review is from: End of All Days (Audio CD)
This is probably my favorite RAGE album. It has the heaviness (and almost dark/death-metal-like feel) that was hinted at with Black in Mind, along with slightly more deep and agressive vocals from Peavey. As I mentioned in another review, his voice is truly like another instrument, and not just an accompaniment.

The songwriting on this album is awesome, and much more consistent than other Rage albums, which inevitably had some filler or lesser songs. In fact, this album has an incredible number of songs-- all good to say the least. And the best ones are truly RAGE high points.

This would be a perfect album if it contained a few more of the RAGE classics like SENT BY THE DEVIL, SUICIDE, LIGHT INTO THE DARKNESS, among others. However, the album would then be way over the 80 minute maximum.

Some highlights from this album in my book are DESPERATION, HIGHER THAN THE SKY, END OF ALL DAYS, heck even the lone ballad FADING HOURS is probably the best they've ever written.

GREAT buy, and I think a wonderful introduction to this influential and important band to metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Gem, October 12, 2010
This review is from: End of All Days (Audio CD)
Rage has such a massive back catalog of great album, every rage fan seems to have different favorites out of their 20+ albums. End Of All Days is an excellent album and one of rage's best works. It is quite underrated in my opinion. It is not one of their heaviest albums, but it is solid from the first song to last. This album has a very melodic style, the songs are very catchy and the lyrics are top notch. Peavy's vocals are at his best here as well. This is a great album to check out for any rage fan.

This review is from: End of All Days (Audio CD)
"Rage" is a German heavy-power-thrash band that emerged during the early 80s led by bassist-vocalist-composer Peavey Wagner. Besides "Helloween", "Rage" is perhaps the sole band that can claim to be, if not the father, the co founder of Power Metal. Still, they are rarely recognized as such mainly because their sound was never 100% typical power metal, rather integrated with thrash, heavy and progressive elements.
"End of all days", originally released in 1995, is the most straightforward approach the band ever took musically: Simple song structures (Riff, main body, bridge, and chorus) while the lyrics are surprisingly concentrated on the exploration of common emotions, particularly love. Although this album stands out as the black sheep of the "Rage" family (due to approach), when one leaves aside stereotypes, can as well enjoy a great record. The guitar riffs (Spiros Efthimiadis) are inspired and stimulating, delivering a somewhat dark- erotic atmosphere while the drumming (Chris Efthimiadis) is sustained in such way that delivers a deep, satisfactory sound. Finally Wagner's vocals are emotional and straight to the point. By all means a great album; even when listening to the album for the first time you might get the feeling that songs such as "The end of all Days", have chart quality and could as well become metal hits, (potentially at least).
