This is The End Complete!,
By A Customer
This review is from: End Complete (Audio CD)
HOLY SH*T! I cannot explain how much this album means to me. I bought The End Complete over 2 years ago and I still listen to it almost every day. This album defines all that real death metal should be. John Tardy is really an underrated vocalist. He has one of the most original growls and voices in all of death metal. Allen West and Trever Peres, what a great combination of guitars. Don Tardy is an underrated drummer, he is really good compared with most death metal drummers. Every song on this album is heavy as Hell and played perfectly. This is one of the best produced albums ever, complementary of Scott Burns who produced most death metal in the 80s and 90s. FYI, this is the also the best selling death metal album of all time...over 250,000 copies, no death band has sold that high! This CD is a brutal masterpiece, Any true death metal head should own this. Peace!

Some of the heaviest tones ever recorded. Best metal album 1992!,

Alan West returns to Obituary and the result is 1992's "The End Complete" -the epitome of what a Death Metal album should be.
From the opening feedback and John Tardy's "UnAowhroahhhhhh!" you just know it gonna be great. West comes in with a wild solo and then Obituary keeps delivering the goods. The drumming is good with lots of tom on double-bass fills, and lots of heavy cymbal beatings. John Tardy's vocals have never sounded better, not only because his voice is decipherable, but because the throaty nature fits the heavy music so well. His also makes better use of his vocal range on this album. And who could forget the dual axeman of Peres and West -which goes between the sludgy main guitar to West's wild soloing and then back again. The production is great as always, would we expect anything less from Scott Burns? Simply put the best written and arranged Obituary album. Best Obituary album? It is a close tie between this and 1989's "Slowly We Rot" but I think "The End Complete" has the edge. This was also one of the best selling Death Metal albums of all time, if not THE best selling Death Metal album, selling more than 500,000 copies 1/2 of which in the first year and a half alone. And while Obituary would go the political route with their next album and then descend into literal retirement, you can always listen to this album and point to a time where Obituary had it all going for them. And while the Death Metal genre has been swallowed by self-parody and the ability not to make good music since about 1995, it good to know that you can listen to the "old days" when Florida Metal was rich and ambituous as exampled by "The End Complete".

solid death,

Following up their groundbreaking death metal classic "Cause Of Death", Obituary see themselves treading familiar territory. Gone are the atmospheric sound effects and buildups of their first 2 discs, replaced by simple, rampaging death metal. First and foremost of mention is John Tardy's totally inhuman vocals. Sounding as if he's trying to talk while dry heaving, he lays down a wall of vocal hatred that is practically second to none in the death metal genre. Veteran death metal producer Scott Burns, also manages to capture an intense riff attack, laid down by Trevor Peres and the returning Allan West, replacing shred master James Murphy. While Allan is no guitar whiz (especially in comparison to Murphy's incredible lead playing), he makes a very decent showing of his (limited) skills and does a very good job. WHile the album isn't nearly as good as "Cause Of Death", "The End Complete" stands as a competent, no frills death metal disc that gives its fans exactly what they want. 3 and a half stars is a better rating.

The epitome of death metal...period.,
By
This review is from: End Complete (Audio CD)
I'm no longer a fan of the tired old death metal genre, but this album still gets some spin time in my cd players. Obituary's first two albums weren't too shabby, but "The End Complete" was simply the perfect death metal album. Not too technical, but really damn effective. Obituary conveyed the heaviest of metal without moving far from a mid-paced tempo. In fact the mid to slow paced beats made the chainsaw chugging riffs seem all the heavier. Pretty extraordinary album for it's time, and it still sounds just as good today. The band unfortunately never released another worthwhile album after this, though "World Demise" had it's moments (everything past that was garbage). There were some great death metal albums in the late 80's/early 90's...but this is the one that really made a lasting impact. This is death metal...everything now is just contrived.

Hypnotic, sublime, intense and relentless brilliance from this very original and talented band.A definite progression from 'Slowly' and 'Cause' (both also viciously smokin'), 'The End' reeks of heaviness, purpose, confidence and enormous ability. Incredible compositions, suffocatingly heavy & deliberate riffing, jawdropping dynamics & precision, and unequaled tone & groove ensures complete addictive satisfaction. This(desert island must-have)is as good as metal gets.

An Ending Worth Starting Again,
By
This review is from: End Complete (Audio CD)
Starting out in 1985 having four years to make their debut, Obituary were well seasoned to say the least. Over the Course of three more years, they made two albums. "The End Complete" being their third release by this point, they have made their mark in being one of Death metal originators. Obituary came to be in easily the biggest Death Metal location of its time (and till thoroughly a large metal scene today)...Florida! I find Obituary to release some very solid music, but the recording quality is a bit lackluster.Especially having to deal with Metallica's insanely large budget "Black Album", " The End Complete" is going to take a nose dive in this section. Obituary in contrast are an early Death Metal act unlike Metallica being a thrash metal band. Quality isn't always a bands selling point, as this hard heavy hitter swings for powerful tunes. Opening with a little bit of feed back swaying in to a mid paced tune "I'm In Pain" begins the wrath brought on by this album. The opening fifteen second solo lick burst screams! As the Vocals come into play around the minute mark, this is the true make or break deal of the album. You already know the guitar is a thick watery tone, the drums are thumping and kicking, the bass is darkening and gloomy. Many enjoy earlier Death Metal vocals (as compared to todays ever dwindling vocalist aiming for Deathcore vocals), some of my fellow metalheads dislike John Tardy's growls. He was a pioneer in the low dark growl scheme that emerged to be a staple to Death Metals ever thickening sound. I personally wasn't a big fan of the vocals at first, but as time set in I soon learned to enjoy and appreciate very much so. "Dead Silence" contrary to its name is a thrilling song, with an amazing solo nearing the end of the song. It pumps solid all the way through. "Sickness" begins with a very thrashy riff (given if the guitar had more treble and a bit drier. I find "Corrosive" to be another great guitar song. The riffs in general aren't too difficult and aren't displayed in a fashionable manor, but Death Metal never intended to be a friendly radio glammed genre anyways. I really enjoy "Killing Time" along gap pursues for a strong duration of the song, the vocals blast back in a startling manor. All the songs hold up some what well, but their are definitley some gems that shine more so than others here. Overall not the best buy, but definitely worth checking the band out in general. The album delivers, but a bit of polish to the album would've been nice. Obituary have just recently released "Xecutioner's Return" in 2007, and have an unnamed title 'To Be Announced' (TBA) aiming for sometime in 09'.

Classic Death Metal, 5 Stars All The Way,

God, I love Obituary. They are no truly one of the greatest and I DO mean one of the greatest death metal bands of all time. I've been a fan of theirs guys ever since I bought both 1989's "Slowly We Rot" and 1990's "Cause of Death" (which were both death metal classics and some of my favorite death metal albums I own) about four years back, and I still listen to them both to this day forward. Then a year later, I would go on to buy both 1994's "World Demise", and of course the album that I'am reviewing right now 1992's "The End Complete". Released in the year of 1992, Obituary's third studio album "The End Complete" is a true death metal classic. This album is also (from research that I did) is the best selling death metal album of all time as well. To me, "The End Complete" is arguably one of Obituary's best albums as well as being their best written album too. John Tardy is one of the best death metal vocalists of all time, and one of my favorites as well. His vocals on here are some of the most harsh, sickest, gutteral, and best sounding on here, I mean he just sounds like a freakin beast. Lead guitarist Allen West and rhythm guitarist Trevor Peres are both great guitarists. They both rip, tear, and slaughter through every song with heavy chainsaw like buzzing riffs, and Allen's solos are just absolutely fast, ripping, and wild throughout. Frank Watkins's bass is pretty good, and Donald Tardy's drumming is just great on here as well with plenty of great double bass kick action. Every song is a classic but my favorites on here are "I'm in Pain" "Back to One", "Sickness", "Killing Time", "In the End of Life", "Corrosive", and "The End Complete". There's also a couple of live versions of "I'm in Pain" and "Killing Time" which were both recorded live during the band's Back From the Dead World Tour in Austria as well. So anyways if you're a fan of Obituary, death metal, heavy metal, etc. you seriously gotta get your hands on this death metal classic known as "The End Complete". This my friends is classic essential death metal man. Enjoy and happy headbanging.
Jeremy's song ratings: 1. I'm in Pain (4:01) - 5/5 2. Back to One (3:42) - 5/5 3. Dead Silence (3:21) - 5/5 4. In the End of Life (3:41) - 5/5 5. Sickness (4:06) - 5/5 6. Corrosive (4:11) - 5/5 7. Killing Time (3:59) - 5/5 8. The End Complete (4:03) - 5/5 9. Rotting Ways (5:17) - 5/5 10. I'm in Pain (Live Bonus Track) (4:49) - 5/5 11. Killing Time (Live Bonus Track) (4:03) - 5/5

Crawling forth from the grave...,
By skullhead (San Francisco, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: End Complete (Audio CD)
Favoring slow, crawling riffs over blast beats and showing more Celtic Frost influence than Slayer, Obituary has always been unique in death metal. Obituary's music is the true sonic equivalent of ravenous undead corpses scratching and clawing their way out of the cold grave by moonlight. Woe to the living! For "The End Complete," Obituary stripped their sound back. Gone are the "Cause of Death" era's atmospheric sound effects and neoclassical soloing. What's left is an album that's different, but no less intense and engaging. Original lead guitarist Allen West returns after a one-album hiatus, bringing an atonal, dive-bombing style to the solos that complements Trevor Peres' gloomy riffs. John Tardy's throat-murdering vocals are arguably more intense and emotional than ever (aided by the most deranged vocal layering I have ever heard), and his brother Donald's drumming mixes equal parts groove and thrash. The result is arguably one of the heaviest, most groove-laden and unique metal albums of all time. In places, the riffs and rhythms reach an almost tribal, trance-inducing pitch. Particularly the last minute of the title track. This album would get more than five stars if I could give them. If you like heavy music, you must obtain this album!

'The End Complete' was my first death album I ever got! Individually, I was worried if I wouldn't have liked it but when the tracks began to turn, I couldn't believe my ears for killer riffs which Trevor's played ! I can easily tell you guys that: It was a great experience. This is a MUST-HAVE album! Go, get it and enjoy then pray for me in the name of 'Killing Time' (The opening riff of this track was also coded for my cellular phone)

This is one of the top best DM albums! I'm dead serious. The vocals still continue to amaze me. Yes, He's the best death vocalist ever. Pure death metal that you can actually enjoy (instead of dumb 500 blast beats a minute rubbish that today's dm bands play, overdone technical bs).
