Surprising Debut from Decyfer Down,
By
This review is from: End of Grey (Audio CD)
Decyfer Down album, End of Grey, is one that catches you right away, and pulls you in. If you're a fan of modern hard rock, be it secular or religious, this album will surprise you and you'll be hooked. Decyfer Down, so far, has built its following from a largely Christian underground. They do, however, have definate cross-over potential. The songs are solid rock front to back - not too heavy to scare away the radio crowd - and not too meak to make rockers want to pass it by. The band has a great groove, an excellent sense of timing, a very talented vocalist, and riffs to jump to. This is one of the better albums (secular and nonsecular) to come out in 2006.

Every aspect of this CD is top notch,

There is absolutely NOTHING to complain about or criticize about this collection of songs. The first time I listened to the entire CD, I was extremely impressed and especially taken by the third track entitled, "Fight Like This." Since then, I've listened to this CD many times and I love every single track!
I said "every aspect is top notch" - I'm saying the drums, bass, guitars, vocals, lyrics, melodies, arrangements and even the "special effects" are all done to perfection. The fast tunes are very aggressive - the guitars are tuned down from the key of E to the key of C, which gives the tone a VERY POWERFUL sound. The slower ballads are just as powerful with an intensity of message that is truly inspiring. If you like hard rock and you prefer tunes with intricate chord changes that are not predictable but yet spine tingling, and you prefer songs with an important and inspiring message, you'll love Decypher Down.

Awsome Album and Ministry,

I bought this album after hearing the sample on the SRE website and fell in love with this band and their ministry through Christ. This album is about many struggles and life situations that both Christians and non-christians deal with on a day to day basis and the lyrics express much passion for Christ.
As for the Music itself it is a very melodic rock that is not nessarily soft but the guitar riffs and flowing lines catch any guitar player's ear in enjoyment. It is a very well done album and an even better live show. If you like the album if you multiply it by 100 and you have this band's live show. Go SEE THEM they are simply amazing men of God.

Very Good Hooks,
By
This review is from: End of Grey (Audio CD)
This is a really good CD worth buying for any hard rock fan, secular or Christian. The arrangements are done well and the hooks, really hook you in. I loved the entire CD. The hooks are arranged with coda changes, so as to provide a feeling of being uplifted. The songs are positive and emphasize relational themes. Although I didn't purchase the CD from Amazon, I thought it was important to provide this review for others.

One of my favorite albums,
By Dash (Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: End of Grey (Audio CD)
This is a really great christian album with 10 songs on it. They're all amazingly done with heavy guitars, great vocals and awesome drums.
Break Free: 8.5/10 This song is great. It has a killer intro riff and the chorus is amazing. It's not the best on the record but it's certainly not the worst. Life Again: 9.0/10 This one is incredible. It has a huge opening and the chorus is so catchy you could sing it all day. There's also a neat guitar solo that's definitely worth checking out. All in all, a great rock song. Fight Like This: 11/10: My personal favorite on the whole album. It's tough and heavy and melodic, but not so much that one completely overwhelms the others. A perfect balance that makes this song better than perfect. Burn Back The Sun: 9.5/10: One of the slower paced tracks on the record. There's a little piano in it and a calming verse before going into a slightly heavy, but more vocal-driven chorus. A nice pick for fans of slower songs. I'll Breathe For You: 8.5/10: I don't listen to this song as much as all the others but in the right respect it's a great song. The vocals are pushed a little bit deeper in the verse but that doesn't stop it from being an awesome track. The main riff is nice. Walking Dead: 9.0/10: This one is more mid-paced, and more heavy, than most of the songs found on this record. The meaning of it is nice and there's a neat guitar solo found on it. Here To You: 10/10: One of the slowest songs on the record, and it's not heavy. It's not a cream puff though, and the way it relates together with God is awesome. The chorus is EXTREMELY catchy, and there's yet another solo found in it. Never Lost: 9.5/10: I don't know how to really put this one, so I'll just say it sounds big. The riff is tough, and this song is more guitar driven than vocal driven, and there's sort of a solo in this one. One of the heaviest songs on the record. No Longer: 9.0/10: This song sounds more mainstream than any other song on the album. In this case, it turned out extremely well. Don't expect big riffs here, but there's a beautiful chorus and a definite solo (4th one in a row. Solo-filled album.) The outro is really well done making this one a worthy listen. Vanity: 8.0/10: Probably my least favorite on the album but it's still awesome. Big riff here, but the chorus isn't much to brag about. It's not really distinguishing from the rest of the song, but it's still very nice. I sing this one in my head a lot. All in all a great album. It's like RED without the orchestra, Skillet without the keyboards, and P.O.D. without the rap.

Amazing hard rock debut,
By coinman (Montana, U.S.) - See all my reviews

I have seen Decypher Down in concert before, plus I have heard a few of their songs before, so I was familiar with their style. I was definitely not disappointed when I bought this CD. The first song starts it off with a nice feel and it hardly changes throughout the CD. In my opinion, the songs are a good mix of good vocals, heavy guitars and bass, plus great lyrics. Half of the songs are great, upbeat, hard rock songs, while the other half are a little more toned down, but they all have a great sound. I think they did a good job of mixing the songs so that not all of the milder songs are at the end. Also, one or two of the "milder" songs are still quite upbeat, it's just that they are obviously a little toned down from the first few songs on the CD.
One interesting feature with this CD is in the front insert. When you unfold the insert, the back is a small poster of the band. I thought that this was pretty cool. The one downside to this is that there are noticeable folds in the poster, plus the picture on the poster is somewhat dark and shadowy, so it doesn't show very well. Overall, all of the songs on the album are great, both in sound and lyrically. If you like hard rock, whether Christian or not, I think you will enjoy this CD. I definitely recommend this album, especially to fans of groups like Skillet, Disciple, Pillar, and Red.

A solid rock album,
By Mark (CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: End of Grey (Audio CD)
Decyfer Down's "End of Grey" is a solid debut rock album. The lead vocalist sings with passion, and the lyrics are good. While the lyrics may be Christian-themed, they are not so overtly Christian as to turn away most secular modern rock fans. Still, those who are Christian should find the lyrics meaningful. Instrumentally, the album could be a bit more creative. However, if you're considering this album after hearing some of its songs on the radio, you shouldn't be disappointed.

I bought this CD together with Red's End of Silence. Decyfer Down is another awesome christian band to hit the scene. Vanity and No Longer completely blew my socks off. If you like hard rock, then this one's defenitely worth a listen.
