4.0 out of 5 stars Skua September (from the Icerigger trilogy), saves Flinx, September 25, 2001

The End Of The Matter picks up just after where Orphan Star leaves off. Flinx, now owner of a space ship, returns to Moth to continue his search for his lineage. After a few of those events that Flinx always finds himself in the middle of, he ends up with a new pet, a strange alien named Ab. Flinx, Ab and Pip then head off to another world in search of a man who bid on Flinx when he was a child slave. That man, Skua September (fresh from the Icerigger trilogy), saves Flinx just in time for his friend Tse-Mallory and Tru to show up in search of Ab (of all things, amazing coincidence). At any rate, it gets a little far-fetched as Ab eventually saves several populated planets from being sucked into a black hole (of sorts). Still, this is solid SciFi adventure and worth a read as part of the larger Flinx series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like the rest of the Flinx and Pip series... EXCELENT, July 19, 1999
By A Customer
This book is in my favorite series of sci-fi stories. Flinx and Pip. As with the rest of the series it has a great story, with a good mix of Plot, Charicter developement, and technology. In this story, flinx finds out about his past... and why he cant find out more. to find out what he finds out, I would suggest reading the book- YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Flinx meets Skua September and saves the galaxy!, February 21, 1998
By A Customer
Flinx meets Skua September (famous pirate/hero character from Foster's Icerigger series) and wind up in a fast paced adventure that puts them on a course of destruction. They wind up saving the galaxy after an incredible series of adventures! I loved it! My two favorite Foster characters in one adventure after another! What more could a Foster SF fan ask for!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it, but, no chapter demarcation?, December 16, 2011

I love this series, so the only problem I had with this book is that I would prefer it had chapter demarcation so I can know I'm near the end of a chapter before I actually get there. The book itself was good. I'm reading the series in publication date order instead of "in book time" order, so to speak, so I've already read the "next" one chronologically in Flinx's life. I'm glad that after Love of Mother Not, it goes back into regular order for the rest of the series as the author stopped writing things out of order. I read them in publication date order because that's how they would have been read originally, so it's more of what I think of as an authentic experience. I would recommend this series to anyone if you like adventure or science fiction or both in a book. I still think it should be mandatory in a Kindle book that they have chapter demarcation at the bottom of the screen. Other people will do a more thorough job of plot details, so I feel like a simple endorsement is all that is really necessary at this point unless and until reviews are deleted at some point.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flinx on the Run, November 2, 2011
This review is from: The End of the Matter (Paperback)
"The End of The Matter" continues the adventures of Flinx and Pip after the novel "Orphan Star". Flinx returns to Moth with his new spaceship built by the Ulru-Ujurrians. He is continuing his mission of trying to find out who his parents are, or more specifically his father now. On Moth, Pip and Flinx save a strange alien, Abalamahalamatandra (Ab) from a couple of assassains, the Qwarm. Ab joins Pip and Flinx, as they head to Alaspin, the homeworld of Pip and his fellow minidrags'. Flinx has heard that the day he was sold to Mother Mastiff, there was a gentleman with a minidrag who had also bid on him. This lead is on the planet Alaspin. Once they land on Alaspin, they head into the jungle with two new companions they meet on the planet. Flinx, Pip, and Ab go from one adventure to the next as they encounter Skua September and his lady companion, and Truzenzuzex and Tse-Mallory from an earlier book. They eventually leave Alaspin to attempt to save 3 worlds from an encroaching collapsar.

This book is a great addition to the Flinx and Pip series by Alan Dean Foster. Foster builds on the backstory of Flinx in this novel, as we continue to learn more about Flinx and the persons who have influenced his young life. I also enjoyed the return of Tru and Tse in this book, and their interactions with Flinx and Sku. On to "Flinx and Flux".

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid story and a good read, May 18, 2011

But...don't you just love that "but"....not the best of Alan Dean Foster. My all time favorite of his is Sentence to Prism, I also loved Nor Crystal Tears. I have enjoyed most of the Flix and Pip series but eventually got tired of the constant search for Mom & Dad. Still, most of them stand on their own and are a good read. Perhaps I am too demanding of Mr. Foster, I know what he can do and am critical when he is not perfect.

Okay, its light, its over the top and I liked it. There is enough character development to satisfy but no burning eternal questions to ponder into the night.
good stuff
