Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This revised edition of the 1995 original features a new cover and a new opening chapter putting Carson's more recent work in context of the rest of his career. The text is brief, but the volume sports 225 images, including eight gatefolds. Even if you have the original, this enlarged, affordable title warrants purchase. An essential title for graphic design collections.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a study of commmposition., June 11, 1997

If it weren't for the experimentations of David Carson, I would not be a graphic designer today. I'd probably be teaching painting somewhere hating life. The End of Print is a study in composition and type. Typography can be the most imaginative, illustrative aspect of a design, and Carson has brought this thinking to a generation of designers, myself included. People are starting to read again and he is one of the reasons, along with a hand ful of other designers who revolutionized the field in the late 80's and early 90's. Stale and stagnant is what design would be toda, I think that Carson is one of the pioneers of graphic design, and The End of Print should be used as an influence for anyone who considers graphic design as a career choice

I cant tell you how many times I return to this book for idea generation. "Dirty" design at its best. This book is better than the sequel but both are worth the investment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, June 4, 2002
I thought the book was very inspirational, with many many many examples of Carson's rule-breaking design. Definately a must own for those with a fresh and adventurous take on design. However, this book is not for designers who cling to 'the grid' like a baby blanket or those who tremble at the idea of pushing the limits of visual communication.
