5.0 out of 5 stars Black in Top Form!!
There isn't anybody in the business of comedy who can rant and rage on like Lewis Black. He's an angry man who isn't afraid to dish out his opinions to others in a funny and entertaining way. "The End of the Universe" is a hilarious performance from an extremely talented comic. Always dishing out the topical humor, he talks about September 11 and the events...

3.0 out of 5 stars he's no bill cosby, but..
I liked this cd a lot. The End Of The Universe skit is hilarious. My only gripe, and don't call me a pu**y for saying this, is that he swears too much. I have no problem with swearing, it's just he uses it so much sometimes, it gets annoying. Instead of being part of his act, the whole angry thing becomes his act. At times, it's just annoying. He could easily get across...

There isn't anybody in the business of comedy who can rant and rage on like Lewis Black. He's an angry man who isn't afraid to dish out his opinions to others in a funny and entertaining way. "The End of the Universe" is a hilarious performance from an extremely talented comic. Always dishing out the topical humor, he talks about September 11 and the events that took place afterwards. He rants about airport security and the absurdity of the Super Bowl half-time shows. Pepsi and Coke are not safe as he unleashes a full attack on their more-then-ridiculous ads. And let's not forget, he tells us all why this is truly "The End of the Universe."

I absolutely enjoyed listening to this live performance. Black's humor is quick, sharp, and is always on target. He's not afraid to point out the stupidity that can be found everywhere in society. The man is very talented when it comes to topical humor. You can tell that a lot of hard work goes into each of his acts. And while his act is very funny, it is also provocative. He makes a lot of good points that gets your mind thinking. Very rarely do we get to see a comic that can make us laugh and think at the same time. A word of warning, though; the man likes to swear. If you're not a fan of offensive language, then this is not the CD for you.

Lewis Black's "The End of the Universe" is an extremely funny comedy album that is bound to get more than a few laughs out of you. If you're a fan of his previous works, then it is highly recommended that you check this CD out. Lewis Black continues to be a very funny and raging comic who knows no limits or boundaries. -Michael Crane

5.0 out of 5 stars Another classic comedy album..., December 12, 2002
This review is from: The End Of The Universe (Audio CD)
Lewis Black is quickly becoming one of the most popular stand-up comedians in the U.S. today, and with this album, that should come as no surprise.

A small portion of this album has the same routine as his latest COMEDY CENTRAL PRESENTS special, but there is more than enough new material here to leave you in stitches. He doesn't even hesitate to verbally assault certain members of the audience who think he's going a little overboard. He tells it like it is, even if it's not things we necessarilly want to hear about ourselves. He sees all the things that are bad in the world in a completely different and hilarious way, and he will enlighten you just as much as he makes you laugh.

I always look forward to any performance by Mr. Black, whether on TV or CD, and I can't personally wait for his next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly his best album!, May 28, 2004

I say that "The End of the Universe" is 'possibly' his best album, as I'm tossed between this second opus from the angry genius and his first offering "The White Album." Lewis is back for another round and this time, he's ticked off. Okay, every time he's back he's ticked off. :-)

He takes on subject like the weather, Starbucks, Atlanta traffic and overpopulation, politics and politicians, the SuperBowl half-time show, religion, humor, and of course the occasional side-bar rant. He also touches a good deal on 9-11, but even considering his angry-comic reputation, he does this and all other bits with extraordinarily good taste and respect. He does not ever offend the audience for any lack of patriotism, but does point out the over-patriotic people who are making our anthems tired. Again, good taste is used and he makes some strong points about ourselves, our country, and our lifestyles.

Yes, he touched on the Weather Channel in the first album, but it's all new material this time. Every time I've heard him discuss the weather, each time it's fresh. I don't think he knows how to use old jokes anymore, as he's always topical and moving ahead with his act.

If you're a fan of comedy, angry or not, this album should definitely belong on your shelves. For those that have children or are offended by foul language, be warned, this album is full of banned public radio words, if you know what I mean. Just so I don't get blamed for recommending this and you happen to find out later. ;-) Otherwise, enjoy heartily!

Lewis Black just keeps getting better. If you loved the white album or have ever heard Lewis on Comedy Central, then you already have an idea of whats to come on The End of the Universe. I thought nothing could top the white album, but this is the funnies thing since carlin's 7 things you can't say on TV. Lewis rants about politics, the superbowl and all of the other things that our culture obsesses about. Just go out and buy the album. You won't regret.

Lewis Black has done it again,I have been playing this disc over and over and can't stop laughing.I have seen him twice over the past two years and I wish he appeared in this area more often. How is it that I had missed out knowing about him before then? Maybe his comedy is an aquired taste,he seems so abrasive, and his use of four-letter words may throw some people off,but after listening to him you realize the only way his comedy really works is when he's ranting. He shows you the stupidity of peoples fears, governments wonderful ways of [messing] with us,how we over reacted to situations after 9/11,and mans general stupidity.
His comedy is for intelligent people, not the easily offended ,people that can see the humor that's right before our eyes, but we seem to miss it and need a man like him to point it out.
I said this in my review of his first album and I'll repeat it.
Do not,Do not operate a motor vehicle while listening to this album.Wait till you are in a non-moving envirenment to enjoy this truly funny album.
When this man appears in a club near you,go see him live !!!

The first time I heard Lewis Black i thought i was going to laugh my self to death. The Second time I couldn't stop saying "Ain't it the truth" over and over again. This album starts out a little slow, which is to be expected if you don't know much about Atlanta. However, after the 1st track it picks up the pace of the jokes greatly, with Lewis going on his infamous tirades against everything from "popular" culture to taxes. I loved this album just as i loved The White Album. Both are superb products of a man who lives to rip apart a wide assortment of people. Pick this album up I can almost guarantee either A.) you will wet yourself laughing or B.) you'll be able to, with great willpower, hold your bladder throughout the CD (Quite an achievement if you ask me.) If you want to check out Lewis before picking up his albums he is on Comedy Central's Daily Show with Jon Stewart once in a while.

Recorded 2001 - 2002.

It has become all too common that few are taken to task for saying or doing stupid things. What's worse is that no one seems to care.

This is the kind of thing that pisses Lewis Black off. The angrier he gets the funnier he is.

I first came to appreciate Mr. Black on the Comedy Central's "Daily Show." I always felt that there should have been more time devoted to Lewis Black.

I wanted more - I needed more - I had to have more!

So I went to my "mental health club," Amazon.com and bought every title available.

The End of the Universe, Rules of Engagement and Luther Burbank Preforming Arts Center Blues - ( I had already purchased the White Album)

Which one is the best? ALL OF THEM!

As I write this review - I realize that I still want more - so I am buying the DVD's.

There is nothing dated about this material. In 2006 it is just as - if not funnier than when first released.

Please Lewis keep recording it still is not enough!

caslo

Another excellent observation-comedy CD from Lewis Black. This offering focuses on 'The War on Terrorism,' global warming, the Superbowl, taxes, and airport security. He raises both humorous and interesting points on each subject, especially on the war on terror.

The CD does contain several profanities, and it almost gets to the point of being excessive. But no more that The White Album or a David Cross CD.

I enjoyed it a great deal and I will continue to spread the word of Lewis... a starbucks next to a starbucks....

If you're looking to unwind after another harrowing work week and the stress is just pinching straight through your nerves then I have no greater recommendation that to run to the nearest store and pick up this CD right now! Lewis Black is one of the few comedians that actually knows what makes us tick. I have not seen another comedian who can truly connect with the audience on a more personal level than he does. This is much needed therapy for those who of us who can't afford that expensive psychiatrist!

This CD is great. But the first one was greater. This and the White album are a problem if you are listening in the car on the highway, you will laugh a lot and be dangerous. This is the best comedy I have heard since Brother Dave Gardner. I would recommend listening to The End of the Universe first, and the White Album second.
