Bobby Bare Jr. "Let's Rock n' Roll"

Biography

With a big-as-the-room persona, an ability to rock the doors off the most jaded of clubs, the heart to hold a room completely still with just his guitar, and a genius for arrangement, Bobby Bare, Jr. and his band of merry makers are one of the most unique bands around. They are adept at abandoning common sense in favor of laying themselves at the feet of a rambunctious, freewheeling, and… Read more in Amazon's Bobby Bare Jr. Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Matured and amazing, June 27, 2004
This review is from: From the End of Your Leash (Audio CD)
I've been a life long fan of Bobby and all his various projects. But this album takes the cake. Simply amazing. He has the care-free writing style reminiscent of Shell Silverstein mixed with his own insight and wit into the world of lost love and heart-break. It is a record that is true to the heart and just plain honest. Highlights include "Can I borrow your Girlfriend," "Valentine" and "Let's Rock and Roll"; a delightfully unique take on life on the road. Bobby's voice cracks with a diligence that caries the heavy lyrical content with a passion other songwriters could only dream of achieving. With delicate harmonies and sweeping pedal steel riffs, "Songs from The End of Your Leash" represents Bobby's greatest achievement. The production qualities are absolutely astounding (as usual). It's a must have record for the year for anyone who enjoys REAL music with soul and passion. Just fantastic, I really can't say enough about it. It is truly a bitter-sweet symphony that gives me chills every time I listen to it. Without a doubt, though, "The Terrible Sunrise" is a track that resonates in your heart with the weight of a two-ton block of cement, and, thus, is my favorite song. Ryan Adams, Jay Farrar, and every wanna-be Nashville songwriter couldn't ever come close to nailing a record as complete, focused, and genius as this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bobby Bare Jr., November 15, 2010
This review is from: From the End of Your Leash (Audio CD)
Bobby Bare Jr is kind of a unique artist and really put out a solid album with this one. You get alt. country/pop/roots rock/folk all wrapped in one album. Even if the song "The Terrible Sunrise" was the only good song on this alum I would recommend getting this album. The song is just that good and one I never get tired of hearing. There are quite a few other songs I really liked a lot- "Valentine", "Don't Follow Me", and also a song written by Shel Silverstein called "Things I Didn't Say". I know Dr. Hook had a good version of this song in the 70's also. There is also a hidden track called "Mother Ucker" which ends the album perfectly. A really good album and I would say a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and overwhelming, April 25, 2008
This review is from: From the End of Your Leash (Audio CD)
This album will blow you over once you give it a try. Bobby Bare Jr. is obviously a very talented and unique singer/songwriter, which sadly has been overlooked for years. His last three albums are all good, and deserve a lot more attention than they`ve got till now.

"From The End Of Your Leash" is from the beginning to the end a soulful journey into several musical landscapes, which includes roots rock, harmonic pop, soul, folk and twangy Nashville country. The tunes are catchy, and grow on you every time you listen. Still the arrangements are a bit unusual, with acoustic/electric guitars, piano, organ, accordion, drums and bass, often charged with interference and guitar-noise, in interaction with choir, strings or a brass-section. But the result of this mix is awesome. The lyrics are also great, and feel credible and real. I will claim that Bare`s musical view on "From The End Of Your Leash" is not too far from f.ex. My Morning Jacket`s indierock, Lambchop`s lounge country or even Hank Williams III`s old school "country-punk". But this musical masterpiece stands on its own feet. In any case, if you are into melodic orchestrated indierock and alternative country, or simply like high quality music, you will love this masterpiece. Strongly recommended!
