They've made the product much worse,

This review is from: EndNote X2 - Complete Package (T12349) Category: Education and Training (Personal Computers)
It's only 1 star because I couldn't give it minus stars.
Creating groups was a really good idea. In X1 it was easy to remove items from a group. You could also cut and paste entries between libraries. Not any more. For those reasons, X2 is a terrible product. Hold on to X1 or lower if you've got it. X2 is definitely a bad upgrade.

I'm in research trying to use Endnote as part of my job, writing a paper for publication. It's AWFUL. So bad. The other reviews mentioning the terrible interface are right on. There is nothing about the program that functions intuitively and thus far it has caused me nothing but frustration.

Horrible interface, dismal documentation,
This review is from: EndNote X2 - Complete Package (T12349) Category: Education and Training (Personal Computers)
I've been attempting use this software application as it was recommended by a university library. While it appears as if it might be useful, I've now spent hours wasting time just trying to get it to work. The interface is simply a labyrinthine quagmire of meaningless menus and the interface is equally bewildering. If I could figure out how to use EndNote, it might be very useful - their website is of no help, their tech support hours are limited, and there are no other good sources to obtain good documentation. I'm interested in researching and writing, not wasting endless hours trying to figure out a software application that is allegedly designed to make those things easier.

The latest version of Endnote continues the process of making the product worse with each "upgrade". The interface gets continually more confusing and counter-intuitive. Avoid.

Not all that and a bag of chips,

I've been using this program in graduate studies. It does have a pretty long learning curve, but, since I am in library science, I have no end of people who can help me. I also love being able to search on multiple libraries, being able to attach documents, being able to include URLs, create groups, and all those good things others have mentioned.
My problem is this. Some professors just want a bibliographic citation which will help you find an item. Others are extremely picky about having it in exact style, whether APA, MLA, Turabian, etc. Fortunately, I live with someone who uses APA on a daily basis, because I had no idea entries were not being formatted correctly. If you're going to use this program, I recommend that you have access to a good APA style guide or expert. For myself, the conveniences aren't worth the possible loss of grade points to incorrect formatting, so I'll be trying other solutions, like NoodleTools and Reference Manager. I don't know if either will be my solution, but EndNote is currently a really nice organizer, and that's it. I can do that with a database and a directory structure.

Endnote for Doctoral Candidates,
By
This review is from: EndNote X2 - Complete Package (T12349) Category: Education and Training (Personal Computers)
I've been using EndNote professionally now for over five years. During that time, I've stored over a thousand references in my EndNote database, and so I rely on it to keep my past research organized and in proper format. EndNote also works exceptionally well with MS Word. Since earning my doctorate, I have continued to use my EndNote database to create citations and bibliographies for all the various papers I since written. Keep in mind that your doctoral research is only the beginning of your career, so you will need a platform such as EndNote to support your future research endeavors. For professional researchers, I recommend EndNote without hesitation.

EndNote X2 and X4 for Windows,

This program might be okay for relatively short documents, but then again, so is the bibliography in Word, and it's free. With a book length document this program will not function properly. While updating the bibliography the program uses all the power [cpu] of the computer. It goes on and on sometimes for a couple of hours before getting some error message. What happens to your document is nothing short of trashing your bibliography and having to start over. Sources were randomly duplicated while others no longer existed. I spent 200 and more hours to straighten this all out and figure I could have done the entire thing by hand in the same time. EndNote X4 does exactly the same thing. I had a computer expert look at this several times. He also knows a lot about software. The bugs are in the program. Go to the EndNote help site and you will find everyone with a document of 150 pages and more is having these problems. My document is over 400 pages and I will never use this program again. WOuld like to rate this with no stars.

a very bad version,
This review is from: EndNote X2 - Complete Package (T12349) Category: Education and Training (Personal Computers)
This version is really bad, with only useless functions added and useful functions deleted from previous ones. I am very disappointed with it.
