This review is from: Endangered Mermaids The Manatees of Florida [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Manatees are slow-moving and harmless plant-eating marine mammals that frequent the shallows of Florida's rivers and coastal oceans. Huge animals which can grow to be fifteen feet long and weight upwards of 3,000 pounds, they eat only aquatic plants. In recent decades their numbers have been dwindling severely as the result of habit contamination and elimination. Endangered Mermaids is a video documentary of the story of the manatee in Florida as presented by people who study, care for, and rescue them. We follow the rescue of two manatees stuck in a Cocoa Beach storm drain who are then transferred to the Sea World facility for treatment and rehabilitation which ultimately results in their being released back into the sea. Produced by the Oceanic Research Group, including Jonathan Bird and Art Cohen, Endangered Mermaids is very highly recommended viewing for those with an interest in wildlife management, animal rescue, and animal habitat restoration/preservation issues.
