This is how he rolls,
By J. Highsmith (Mitchellville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Endangered Species (Audio CD)
Ladies and gentlemen, without the lyrical skills of Big Pun, the Terror Squad will never be the same. It's like Bad Boy without Biggie or The Roc without Jay Z. In a short amount of time, Big Pun had already gathered a fan base and had loyal supporters from New York to other places around the world. "Endangered Species" is a tribute to Big Pun just like "Born Again" was a tribute to the Notorious BIG. The difference is that on this CD, these are all actual songs and not a fabrication of songs put together to make a CD, like "Born Again" was. "Endangered Species" features early Big Pun songs, tracks that he was featured on that may have been on other artist's CDs and a few unreleased tracks as well. This CD was well put together. The 1st single, "How We Roll" w/Ashanti is vintage Big Pun and will remind some people of last year's "It's So Hard" w/Donell Jones. Througout the CD, you are reminded of all the classic Big Pun verses that he put out throughout his rap career, that was tragically cut short. My personal favorites inculde the unreleased songs "Brave In The Heart" and "My World", classic posse cuts "Banned From TV" and "John Blaze", and Big Pun classics such as "Whatcha Gonna Do" "Off The Books" w/Beatnuts & Cuban Link, & "Twinz" (Deep Cover '98). You should also check out the freestyle with Remy Martin that uses the beat to DMX's "Get At Me Dog". To anyone that doesn't have most of these songs on CD because they are on other rap artist's Cds, this is a nice collection of songs to have, especially if all the Big Pun songs you have are on "Capital Punishment" or "Yeeeah Baby". This is an excellent tribute for the artist known as Big Punsiher.

we'll always miss pun,

this is a fine combination of the finest and latest work pun has done. you have your classics like deep cover 98, off the books, and still not a player, but you also have unreleased masterpieces like how we roll and brave in the heart. despite having limited work to choose from, the people who decided on these songs did a great job.the latin guitar and bass beats are excellent, but my favorite beat is off the books eerie flute loop. the posse cuts like wishful thinking and fire water are all good because it's pun spitting with a variety of taleneted artists. the words from pun's close friends are also nice because you can see how they react to the "latin that went platinum's" death. this is the final work you'llbe able to pick up from this incredible lyricist and i advise everybody, rap fan or not, to pick this up.

This album is a must have for any Big Pun fan. Christopher Rios will be missed, but his music lives on and will always be remembered for his mastery with words. A Society for the Commonwealth Master Lyricist, Big Pun delivers where others fall short. This CD is the best way to get to know this man's lyrical genius. If you have to have one Big Pun album, let it be this one.
