Ladies and gentlemen, without the lyrical skills of Big Pun, the Terror Squad will never be the same. It's like Bad Boy without Biggie or The Roc without Jay Z. Ladies and gentlemen, without the lyrical skills of Big Pun, the Terror Squad will never be the same. It's like Bad Boy without Biggie or The Roc without Jay Z. In a short amount of time, Big Pun had already gathered a fan base and had loyal supporters from New York to other places around the world. "Endangered Species" is a tribute to Big Pun just like "Born Again" was a tribute to the Notorious BIG. The difference is that on this CD, these are all actual songs and not a fabrication of songs put together to make a CD, like "Born Again" was. "Endangered Species" features early Big Pun songs, tracks that he was featured on that may have been on other artist's CDs and a few unreleased tracks as well. This CD was well put together. The 1st single, "How We Roll" w/Ashanti is vintage Big Pun and will remind some people of last year's "It's So Hard" w/Donell Jones. Througout the CD, you are reminded of all the classic Big Pun verses that he put out throughout his rap career, that was tragically cut short. My personal favorites inculde the unreleased songs "Brave In The Heart" and "My World", classic posse cuts "Banned From TV" and "John Blaze", and Big Pun classics such as "Whatcha Gonna Do" "Off The Books" w/Beatnuts & Cuban Link, & "Twinz" (Deep Cover '98). You should also check out the freestyle with Remy Martin that uses the beat to DMX's "Get At Me Dog". To anyone that doesn't have most of these songs on CD because they are on other rap artist's Cds, this is a nice collection of songs to have, especially if all the Big Pun songs you have are on "Capital Punishment" or "Yeeeah Baby". This is an excellent tribute for the artist known as Big Punsiher.

5.0 out of 5 stars we'll always miss pun, June 7, 2001
This review is from: Endangered Species (Audio CD)
this is a fine combination of the finest and latest work pun has done. you have your classics like deep cover 98, off the books, and still not a player, but you also have unreleased masterpieces like how we roll and brave in the heart. despite having limited work to choose from, the people who decided on these songs did a great job.

the latin guitar and bass beats are excellent, but my favorite beat is off the books eerie flute loop. the posse cuts like wishful thinking and fire water are all good because it's pun spitting with a variety of taleneted artists. the words from pun's close friends are also nice because you can see how they react to the "latin that went platinum's" death. this is the final work you'llbe able to pick up from this incredible lyricist and i advise everybody, rap fan or not, to pick this up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have, December 16, 2002

This album is a must have for any Big Pun fan. Christopher Rios will be missed, but his music lives on and will always be remembered for his mastery with words. A Society for the Commonwealth Master Lyricist, Big Pun delivers where others fall short. This CD is the best way to get to know this man's lyrical genius. If you have to have one Big Pun album, let it be this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Endangered Species - The Late Big Pun, July 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Endangered Species (Audio CD)
Even though this is like a greatest hits album it still has a regular place in my CD player. Tight songs such as 'Still Not A Player', 'You Aint A Killer' and the unreleased 'How We Roll' are just 3 of the 24 dope tracks from the album. On this album you can truly recognise Puns lyrical genius. Some of the tightest lines i have ever heard are featured on this album. 'Banned From TV' is another song from the album featuring Noreaga, Jada & Cam'ron. That song has one of the dopest beats !! The only bad side is the fact that it is a tribute album, although it is good value for 24 tracks although its not so good if you have Capital Punishment and Yeeeah Baby you'll find some of the tracks repeated.

Peace

5.0 out of 5 stars Not exactally what I expected, May 19, 2001

I may be a fan of rap, but not really hard-core rap. I happened to just recently get into this. WHen I heard How We Roll, I couldn't resist to buy this album. AM I dissapointed? No. Actually, I thought Yeeeah Baby would have been an example of downward spiral. Actually it wasn't.

It includes his old and new songs, some from Capital Punishment, some collabs from other artists' albums put on this, and more. This is a must for a fan. Especially a must for anybody who knows absolutely nothing about Big Pun or the Terror Squad.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big Pun At His Best!!!........Almost, May 13, 2001

Big Pun puts out a great compilation of his greatest work. I will say there were a few Big Pun hits that shoud have been on here that were not such as...Not a Player, It's So Hard, N.Y. Giants, And the song he sings with the terror squad on the "Rush Hour" soundtrack. But it still gets 5 stars because it is a great cd. Some great songs are Twinz(Deep Cover '98) which is Pun and Fat Joe's version of the song that made snoop and dre overnight sensations, How we Roll which is a great song and it shows pun's talent to flow, Still Not a Player is a classic!!! Great song by pun my favorite(If you like this you gotta pick up "Capital Punishment"), Off the Books is also a good song pun and the nuts dominate on this joint, Pina Colada is a great song but when pun raps its the same rap from "How We Roll", Now the Livin' La Vida Loca really doesent do anything for me like I said instead of that they should have "Still Not A Player". Overall great buy for pun fans.....I hope they make a vol.2 because pun has alot of more great songs.

Well, Big Pun has done it again. Even though it has a few of songs that I've have already heard, I feels good to listen to them again and again. Big Pun represented the Black, Latino, White and all other cultures. If you don't get this Cd, you will be missing out on the phatest Cd to come out of the Terror Squad. Also go get the Cuban Link Cd. That is also hot.

Rest in Peace(R.I.P.) Big Pun

This album is primarily the not so commercial previous releases, if you have been a big pun fan, you prob have the majority of these songs. There is some really hot ish on here, but I'd listen to this cd and compare it to older pun and terror squad releases before you 'cop that.

Rest In Peace / One Love Christopher Rios aka Big Punisher (1971-2000)

5.0 out of 5 stars Emcees like him are an Endangered species!, September 27, 2006
This review is from: Endangered Species (Audio CD)
Standout tracks: TWINZ, HOW WE ROLL, OFF THE BOOKS(classic), BANNED FROM TV(minus NORE's crappy verse), MAMMA, BRAVE IN THE HEART, THE DREAM SHATTERER(original version), JOHN BLAZE(ccclassic!), MY WORLD WORLD, FIRE WATER(even Fat Joe's verse was fire), CLASSIC VERSES(Remy Ma before she became wack), WISHFUL THINKING and HOW WE ROLL98. Filler none. Bottom Line: Big Pun was definetely a force to be reckoned with. He had a killer flow his punchlines were hilarious and last but definetely not least he was hip hop. Its unfortunate that his right hand man(Fat Joe)went pop after he died. If Pun was alive now one would have to wonder if he could still respect a fool that put out wack albums like Jelous Ones Still Envy, Loyalty and All Or Nothing?
