Biography

Beyond the tragedy, the history, the raging guitars and the killer songs, ultimately, Lynyrd Skynyrd is about an indomitable will. About survival of spirit; unbowed, uniquely American, stubbornly resolute.

With their first set of new studio material since 2003’s Vicious Cycle, legendary rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd returns with God & Guns, due out September 29 on Loud & ... Read more in Amazon's Lynyrd Skynyrd Store

I love this cd. It was hard to find for several years. The acoustic versions of these songs are just dynamite. A great buy for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really nice and smooth, like Tennessee Whizkee. March 21, 2013

I really enjoyed this CD. So cool to hear acoustic versions of some of the classic songs. The sound is crisp and mixed well. The Sweet Home Alabama was really suh-weet. This is a must for any long time fan looking for a different sound. The price is really amazing, sure bet for any fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! December 31, 2013
By Anthony
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I was first introduced to Skynyrd back in 1974 and went to see/hear them live in Macon, Ga. For whatever reason, I never gave this CD any consideration. It showed up on my recommended list and I read the reviews to see what people thought. I decided to give it a try. This is an excellent album. If I was marooned on an island with only five albums to listen to this would be one of them. I love the stripped down sound. The acoustic makeover of songs that I didn't much care for on the studio albums have given me a whole new perspective of them. The only song on this album that I might, might prefer the studio version of is Sweet Home Alabama (Turn it up), I still love it. Man would I have loved to sit in on this session. The sound quality is so good you can close your eyes and you are there. The instruments jump out at you. Well, I think it's time for me to move along, I do believe!

I first found out about this album from my ex-wife. She had it in her car and I had to drive it to work one day. It has since become a staple in my music collection. (Stole the disc from her in the divorce too). The use of the mandolin stands out with the acoustic guitars and bass. Great classic tunes done front-porch style by one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A class on its own August 2, 2013

Wow!! Didn't even know this one exsisted. One of the best albums I ever heard. It's unplugged so to speak with a few songs I have never heard, and that in it self says a lot . It has been in my CD player for weeks now. If you are a skynard fan it is a must have!!

4.0 out of 5 stars REFRESHING DEPARTURE July 18, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This set gives us Lynyrd Skynyrd in an all acoustic affair that sounds truly fresh and new. There are their old hits done with loving care that sound just great in this format like, "Sweet Home Alabama". You have not heard them like quite like this but I can say that a very pleasant surprise awaits you as soon as the music starts.

I'm a bit disappointed in this CD. There are only 3 songs that I really like, but it's Skynyrd and can't help but love their work!

Great acoustic versions of some skynyrd classics as well as elvis's Heartbreak Hotel. The rendition of Sweet Home Alabama is hauntingly beautiful.
