"I got free the day I fought the Devil in the bottle",
By Eric S. Kim (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Endangered Species (Audio CD)
For this eighth studio album, most of the songs are new while a few are brand new. The ones that we've heard before ("Sweet Home Alabama," "Down South Jukin'," "I Ain't the One," etc.) are given more acoustic touches. They sound just as great as the originals, with Johnny Van Zant giving excellent vocal performances all around. The new songs are highly enjoyable. "Devil in a Bottle" and "Good Luck, Bad Luck" are especially superb. All in all, it's such a terrific experience to listen to some more Skynyrd.Grade: 9.6 out of 10 Also from Lynyrd Skynyrd Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd (9.8 out of 10) Second Helping (9.8 out of 10) Nuthin' Fancy (9.9 out of 10) Gimme Back my Bullets (9.8 out of 10) Street Survivors (9.9 out of 10) Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991 (9.6 out of 10) The Last Rebel (9 out of 10)

...I missed hearing some of these GREAT songs before, what a loss too.I love the change on some of the original songs as well. I rate this CD a 10....Endangered Species is a must for every Southern Rock Fan!! I heard "Devil in the Bottle" while listening to music on my computer and I knew I had to have that CD! I even bought a CD for a friend that shares my love for this type of music. BTW I love dealing with Amazon for most all of my online purchases, and they did not pay me to say this either! :)

SKYNYRD UNPLUGGED!,

Quite possibly the best album from this band after reforming in the late 80s. The new songs like "Good Luck, Bad Luck" and "Devil In A Bottle" are cut from the same cloth as Skynyrd's best work. The acoustic recordings of classics like "Poison' Whiskey", "Things Goin' On" and "Down South Jukin'" just whet your appetite for arguably the best cover of "Heartbreak Hotel" ever recorded. There are other solid albums in Lynyrd Skynyrd's post plane crash incarnations, ("Twenty", "The Last Rebel" and "Vicious Cycle" offer up plenty of excellent music with the unmistakable Skynyrd brand) But "Endangered Species" is probably the strongest from start to finish. Get It.

This is an excellent CD with very nicely done acoustic covers. There is a great version of "The Last Rebel" featuring Ed King on mandolin. Outstanding!

I used to have this cd back in the ninties but lost it. It is one of my favorite cds by this group. Every song is played accoustic. Its like listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd unplugged.Very good cd.
