Tragically Hopeful,
By Otto (MiddleOfNowhere, NM) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Ender's Shadow Series Box Set: Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, Shadow of the Giant (Paperback)
Wonderful collection of all four Ender's Shadow series books. Though I personally expected that I would prefer the Ender's Series to its Shadow Series counterpart, these books took a hold of me and didn't let me go until the very last page. Mr Card details a wonderfully complex and ever changing, yet easy to follow narrative. Having personally read hundreds of books, I have never recommended a series more strongly that I have the Ender's Game series. I have yet to read Ender in Exile, but plan on picking that up quite soon. Deep, political, emotional, philosophical, psychological, and religious questions are brought up here. Though Card is more conservative than I am, he offers a balanced perspective in his works. Most impressive, I felt, was how he turns thoughts into action, showing the growth of his characters and ensuring that you never feel like you're reading through the filler to get to the next good part.
Highly recommended for any reader, but particularly for those who want to make reading a more solid part of their life and haven't yet found that right book to do so with. This series did that for quite a few people I know, and I'm sure it could do it for you as well.

...like me! I love getting a great price on fantastic books that fit nicely into one little box. This is seriously the best deal you are going to find on these books, which happen to be amazing. The way Cards characters think, the plot twists, and drawn out debates of morality on various issues are all absolute genius. Also if you read Ender's Game then it is a real treat to read this series and see where all his buds from battle school ended up the whole series is rather nostalgic. When you see characters like Petra, Peter, and Bean influence the course of world events it gives you a sense of closure for Enders past on earth.

All of these books are an excellent read! They have all the excitement of a thriller, while still making you think of deeper issues. I would recommend these books for anyone from their early teens through adulthood.

Out of over hundreds of books, the first two in the set are at the top,

As this is a box set I will rate all four together:
Style: A+ Plot: A- Character Development: A+ Uniqueness: A Enjoyment: A- As to the first three negative recommendations, they are based on the actual physical qualities of the set. It is not hardcover, but four paperbacks in a box at a cheaper price. I would recommend this to those who thoroughly enjoyed Ender's Game. Ender's Shadow is one of the best sequels ever written and is an indispensable companion to Ender's Game. The other books are more political and societal in nature. Many friends who have read the aforementioned books, didn't enjoy the final 3 simply due to the political subplots. Overall, I enjoyed them all, but if you have never read a book with political (fictional) undertones, I would suggest purchasing Ender's Shadow and one of the others separately first.

Enders Shadow Series,

I found Enders Shadow to be highly entertaining yet skilfully written in an area where detail mistakes were so easy to make. The three remaining books continually show the deficiencies and fallabilities of all political and some religious systems.

Ender's Shadow Series,
This review is from: The Ender's Shadow Series Box Set: Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, Shadow of the Giant (Paperback)
Product was sent very quickly and undamaged. All the books are very enjoyable to read. Very enjoyable series following Ender's friends as they make it in the world after the bugger war. First books reads similarly to Ender's Game. Second book was made very enjoyable with the addition of the feeling that the main characters are playing very important roles in actually affecting the world, protecting and attacking countries. Subsequent books continue this trend and include more and more of Beans personal life.

Great way to get all the Shadow books in one place. Makes a great gift for the newbie Ender reader in combination with the Ender set.Paperbacks are of good quality. You won't be disappointed with this if you are considering it as a gift.

This series is better than the original Ender series,

Whereas the Ender series starts falling apart in "Xenocide" and "Children of the Mind" is just annoying, the Bean series stays exciting and enjoyable. I had almost completely forgotten Bean until I picked up "Ender's Shadow", but now I think I love him more than I love Ender. He is well-rounded, heroic and tragic. This is a must read for anyone who enjoyed "Ender's Game".

This set of books was the greatest set I've ever read. After getting hooked after reading Ender's Game, I was interested in reading the rest of Orson Scott Card's books. The Shadow Series is one of his greatest works.

I received the book set and there were two of the same book. It was a bit of a hassle going through the exchange but Amazon really tries to make it easy. We initially contacted the publisher but they weren't very helpful.
