Book Description

August 28, 2012 A Sirantha Jax Novel (Book 6)
Regret nothing.

Sirantha Jax has the J-gene, which permits her to “jump” faster-than-light ships through grimspace. She loves nothing more than that rush, but the star roads have to wait…

Her final mission takes her to La’heng, a planet subjugated during first contact. Since then, the La’hengrin homeworld has been occupied by foreign conquerors.

All that’s about to change.

Now, as part of a grassroots resistance, Jax means to liberate the La’hengrin. But political intrigue and guerrilla warfare are new to her, and this will be the most dangerous game she’s ever played—spies and conspiracies, a war of weapons and hearts, and not everyone is guaranteed to make it out alive...

This review is spoiler free, but assumes a familiarity with the Sirantha Jax series.
I have put off writing this review, because it is, for me, the final step in accepting that the Sirantha Jax series is over. How do I write about a book that concludes one of my most cherished series, and somehow manage to do it the justice it deserves? I will certainly try now.

Engame starts out with Sirantha Jax continuing in her mission to liberate La'heng from the Nicuan nobles. A long time ago when humans first arrived to L'heng, they covered the world with a chemical that changed the La'heng natives, making it impossible for them to fight, and easy to enslave. Jax has funded research that has led to a cure, allowing the La'heng natives to become self-sufficient again, but of course the Nicuan nobles want nothing to do with that. After being denied an appeal by the Imperial board of governors to make the cure widespread and available to the La'hengrin, Loras and Jax start a rebellion to deploy the Cavati's Cure to the natives, and begin an initiative to train them to fight back on their own behalf.

As Jax says in the opening line of the book, "This is not a love story." No, this is a war story, and all the things that come along with with fighting a war are present. There is a lot of downtime and waiting, as much as there are chases and battles.

Those who were worried at the end of Aftermath over whether we'd see March again and when, need not worry. March meets up with Jax very early on, with Sasha in tow. Upon their reunion, with Jax's introspection I am easily reminded why I love her so much. This quote sums up one of the many things I love about her:

"He's said that about me before-- that I'm the strongest person he's ever met. I tend to think I'm dumb.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jax Finishes with a Bang August 28, 2012
By Britt
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Knowing Endgame marked the conclusion of the Sirantha Jax series, I wondered if the story would finish with a bang or a whimper. I'm happy to report that Ann Aguirre has managed the tricky task of wrapping up a powerful science fiction series with a thoughtful and satisfying conclusion.

In many ways, the highlight of this series has been the growth of its primary character Jax. And this final installment presents a clear-eyed assessment of a character who started out appealing if shallow and ended up willing to stick by her promises even at the risk of her life.

This final adventure takes Jax and company to La'heng for a confrontation against an occupying force that "protects" the natives from themselves by enslaving them. Through this conflict, we see a grown up Jax take what amounts to a back seat. As the story progress, others are leading, and she's supporting the effort. It's a different role from her past experience, and it was interesting to see her perspective as a member of the team as opposed to a part of the leadership. In many ways, it confirms how she has grown as a character.

One event in particular highlights how Jax has evolved. When presented with the choice to change her appearance permanently to support a mission, she does so, despite misgivings about what it means to no longer look like herself. I suspect the old Jax would have declined (granted, she wouldn't have been a part of this effort in the first place). This Jax makes the decision that lets her help.

I also think this series has done an excellent job of demonstrating the cost of war. In battle after battle, we see that lives are lost and hard decisions are made with huge consequences.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Wait! September 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this series, couldn't wait for the final chapter. This one answered all my questions and left me grinning from ear to ear. Finally... the wallowing was over, the truth was said out loud, and everyone admitted that keeping secrets was stupid and cowardly. My kinda people! Happily ever after is an illusion but happy and loving is attainable!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute MUST READ! September 17, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
My Thoughts
The Sirantha Jax Series is over! Oh how I loved this Series. My Paranormal Romance cravings really kicked in when I read my my first book about Sarintha Jax and now has become one of my all time favorite Series.

Endgame is the final and last book of this fantastic Series. Endgame starts out with Sirantha Jax continuing in her mission where she finished in her last book Aftermath, to liberate La'heng from the Nicuan nobles. As Jax says in the opening line of the book, "This is not a love story. It is my life, and as such, there is love, loss, war, death and sacrifice. It's about things needed to be done and choices made. I regret nothing."

I have to admit that is was a little worried at the end of Ann's last book Aftermath over whether I would read more about March and if this would really would be the end between Jax and March. But all my worries where for nothing because of course Ann pulse a great storyline out of her sleeve because March meets up with Jax very early in this New story with his great surrogate-son.

It is always hard to write a good story. Even harder to write a second one that tops the first one but when your are lucky that you have a full running series it's even harder to end it well for yourself and for your readers. I can tell you Ann Aquirre did it perfect! Like in all her other books this one also contained all the right elements like the action, world building, great characters, heavy emotions, betrayal but also the paranormal beings new and old.I never read any book that could catch me and keep me interested thru the series, like Ann's Sirantha Jax Series.

It is great to read about Jax can never read enough about her but besides Jax and March there is Vel ... The loyal Ithtorian bounty hunter.... Oooh Vel!

Series was OK but sometimes a little to much romance novel and not enough Science Fiction. Had to finish the series though.

The end for Sirantha - can you recommend something similar?
Have you read the Valor series by Tanya Huff? If not, I HIGHLY recommend it. Valor's Choice (Valor Novel) or even Stardoc. However, with Stardoc, it's only the first FEW books that are good but you can leave it at the first couple. Cheers! If I think of... Read more
