Biography

Doomsday scenarios are often predictive about an ending in life, revealing just what would occur if the world pushed itself to the brink of extinction. And the term “endgame” typically parallels such thinking, often evoking concepts of finality or termination.

But for Rise Against, this particular endgame might just be their beginning.

I love all of Rise Against's albums. The Sufferer and the Witness is the only album that is better than Endgame. Endgame has some of their best songs. Tom's raspy vocals are better than ever, the guitar riffs are mind blowing and the drums are pounding just the way a Rise Against album should be. I will go track by track to explain the awesomeness of the album...

1. Architects: 8/10
A very strong start to the album. As usual in Rise Against songs great lyrics and great vocal power. Some have diminsihed because of its apparent mimic of an Against Me song but I really could careless, it's a great song that deserves recognition.

2. Help is on the Way: 8/10
A great chose as a lead off single, it's powerful and its a great protest song against the way FEMA handled Hurricane Katrina. THe music video is very good and really exasperates the song. It's a perfect punk rock anthem. It's not a boring song in anyway and even has a tempo switch. Very Rise Against like...

3. Make it Stop (Children's September): 9/10
All I can say is that it's a very important song about bullies that bully gays and lesbians and how these bully victims have commited suicide. The song is powerful and is amongst my favorite on the album. It's a little bit slower than most songs on the album, probably the slowest but its damn good. The music video is powerful. When Tom mentions the names and ages of teenagers that commited suicide from being bullied, it really touched my heart. Amazing song...

4. Disparity By Design: 8/10
Sounds like something of Sufferer and the Witness, it's just a classic Rise Against song with great lyrics. The chorus is amonst the catchiest on the album, another damn good song.

5. Satellite: 9/10
Another classic Rise Against song.

When "The Unraveling" came out, I was blown away. One of the best hardcore/punk albums in my opinion. "Revolutions Per Minute" continued with greatness, with great lyrics, anger, and speed. "Siren Song..." and "The Sufferer..." were both great in their own rights, but "Appeal To Reason" is where a downward curve began. "AtR" had some kick-ass songs, but the bad songs were really bad. "Endgame"... very safe, too long, too slow.
Some pretty good songs featured here ("Architects", "Survivor Guilt", "Satellite"), but there doesn't seem to be any songs that are really great. On the other hand, no songs are really bad either. It's a very middle-of-the-road album.

I bought it, I don't regret it, but after a few songs I always just end up putting "The Unraveling" back on.

I understand why some fans are turned off by Rise Against progressively making more commercial music. My buddy, who loves Rise Against and introduced me to them loves the first two Cd's, and thinks they then peaked at Siren Song. Me personally think the first two albums were good but rough around the edges. Siren Song was a big step, and The Sufferer and the Witness is there pinnacle so far. While Appeal to Reason and now Endgame don't match that peak, I think they are still better than most rock music out there.

Rise Against purists, and music fans by nature are going to love when the band was raw, before they "sold out". I disagree, I think if Rise Against was still making music like The Unraveling, I know I wouldn't have ever been into them. After a few days of listening to Endgame, I find it better than Appeal to Reason (which I thought was a solid album). Highlights for me include Survivor Guilt, Satellite, and the title track. After hearing the children's chior on "Make It Stop", I wish they would do just that. Besides that sappy touch though, it is a good song, although on of the weaker on the album.

I really had to search for something negative to say about the album. I guess I could say there are not as many catchy hooks as on previous albums. Still though, I find all the songs listenable, and while some may look at it as a negative that no songs stand out, I think the album flows nicely. Good cohesion throughout. I hope the Rise Against purists can understand the band maturing and try to embrace the direction they have taken.

Big credit to Amazon for offering this cd for under 5 dollars, down with Itunes.

Completely turned off by this album. I gave it two chances, twice listening to it all the way through...plenty of time for me. Others, maybe not. Yes, I know Rise Against has changed their old playing habits. No, I am not one of those who start hating bands just because of it. Would I hate an album? Of course. This is one of those albums. There are 3 songs that are OK. But not enough to make me keep it in rotation. Prior albums...absolutely. I have yet to listen to The Black Market, which will be my next purchase. Endgame didn't do it for me. The change was a little too drastic. Not necessarily too commercial..even if that's what it was. It was just...too soft, too slow, too light...compared to past Rise Against. I can take the commercial, more poppy sounding change in some bands...as long as it still sounds half decent. This wasn't any of those things. It was just...not Rise Against. Felt like they said...here's an album, we threw it together for you guys, hope you like it. While I appreciate the thought of keeping your fans satisfied with music...might want to actually make music, before recording it. Happy this was only $5.

Those who are fans of any past album, skip this, unless you want it for your collection/discography.
