4.0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I found this novelization really helped my understand parts of End Game (the episode) that I missed the first time I watched it. I found the episode rushed through a lot and of course, there was no closure. Sure they arrived home but that's it. Tom didn't even see baby Miral yet! And Admiral Paris didn't say two words about Tom, just glanced at him a second. The book...

2.0 out of 5 stars Same symptoms as the series
"Star Trek Voyager: Endgame" offers little to the reader unless he or she accidentally missed the series finale. I'm sure it's not the fault of the author (Trek authors are kept on tight leashes), but this book is really only a transcription of the final episode, which in itself was not that exciting (Trek motto: when in doubt, use time travel). True, in the...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, July 10, 2001

This review is from: Endgame (Star Trek Voyager) (Paperback)
I found this novelization really helped my understand parts of End Game (the episode) that I missed the first time I watched it. I found the episode rushed through a lot and of course, there was no closure. Sure they arrived home but that's it. Tom didn't even see baby Miral yet! And Admiral Paris didn't say two words about Tom, just glanced at him a second. The book covers a lot of missing issues. The captain's delima with raising children on the ship, Tom's concern for B'llana while his trying to fly the ship, the Captain picking up on the Admiral's hints about the future, etc. However, the best part of the book is the sneak peak at Homecoming, probably because it starts the closure the End Game didn't touch. I can't wait until it comes out.

5.0 out of 5 stars The End Of The Story, well-told!, September 7, 2001
By
Diane Bellomo (Baltimore, MD United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Endgame (Star Trek Voyager) (Paperback)
Let me first mention that I wrote this review before the events of September 11, and now that it is four days later, I wish only to keep it posted here, in the hopes that it may give us a glimpse into a bright, new future - not only for those characters we love in the Trek universe, but for ourselves as well.

Some might accuse me of showing favoritism when it comes to my reviews of the Trek novels. Okay...guilty! It's just that because I love Star Trek, I find little fault with those who write in that universe. Plus, I only read the novels that interest me, so of course my reviews might be more favorable than if I were reading them *all.* But I digress. On to "Endgame."

Janeway had a mission, and that was to get her crew home. She did. End of story. Anyone who thinks there should have been more to that story *must* read this novelization. The blanks are nicely filled in with all the things the televised episodes do not have enough time for. Add to that Diane Carey's unique maritime writing style (the "icebreaker prow" of one of the cube's corners, for example), her delicious narrative ("Seven had never been at ease with the way men looked at her. Having no barometer of social tenderizing with which to judge things as fleeting as physical presence, she didn't know she was an eagle's cry from average.") and her use of the number 47, and, well, you've got yum with a spoon!

Certainly, the whole TV episode is in there, but the additional information provided by thoughts and narrative make for a much deeper, more understandable, story. About the only fault I found was the number of typos (7). But that's no big deal when it comes to the story as a whole.

As to Christie Golden's four chapters of "Homecoming" at the end, I'm not ashamed to say I cried a little, and I cannot wait to read the whole thing. Resolution abounds for many characters and hints at more to come. It's obvious resolution's not the *only* thing going on in "Homecoming," but for a teaser, well, let's just say I'm saving my pennies to buy the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Voyager returns home, July 6, 2001

I believe Diane Carey did a good adapting what was an ok script. She added details which were not shown in the final episode (Chakotay's conversation with Seven about similarities between Seven and his mother; Paris's thoughts while his wife is giving birth and worrying about the Borg: etc.)I believe this book would have been better as a regular size paperback but I enjoyed it alot. I also can't wait for Christie Golden's Voyager Homecoming Novel. The sneak peek we were given was excellent. I hope it comes out soon and that Miss Golden comes up with a new and improved version of Voyager..."Voyager A" for the crew to reunite on and find a way to save the baby that was assimilated

2.0 out of 5 stars Same symptoms as the series, October 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Endgame (Star Trek Voyager) (Paperback)
"Star Trek Voyager: Endgame" offers little to the reader unless he or she accidentally missed the series finale. I'm sure it's not the fault of the author (Trek authors are kept on tight leashes), but this book is really only a transcription of the final episode, which in itself was not that exciting (Trek motto: when in doubt, use time travel). True, in the book we're given more of a glance into characters' thoughts, but there isn't much payoff. For instance, when Chakotay is interrupted by the comm system while kissing Seven, the book shows us that he was REALLY frustrated instead of just frustrated (which we could see in the episode).

This book is also overpriced. It should have been a mass market paperback instead of the more expensive trade paperback. The only interesting part of the book is the preview of the upcoming "Star Trek Voyager: Homecoming" book. Therefore, the alternative to a mass market paperback could have been to make "Endgame" the first half of a trade paperback with the "after events" (those that will be depicted in "Homecoming") the second half of the same book. Now THAT would have been something to get excited about.

And while I'm on that topic.... perhaps "Voyager" would have been a better show if they had gotten home during the last episode of the SIXTH season. Then the last season could have explored the consequences and implications of their long voyage. Can they reintegrate into the lives of their loved ones on Earth? Who will choose to stay with Starfleet? Because we knew all along that Voyager would likely get home in the very last episode, the last season contained no real suspense.

2.0 out of 5 stars I love Voyager, but this is ridiculous!, October 20, 2001

What the heck happened? I know Diane Carrey can write because SHip of The Line was Trek at its best. I just came away from this noveliaztion with a bad taste. First I got a Dick and Jane style of writing, picture book sized book with big letters to fill up space, and an awful cover that didn't do justice to the show. I know that there are a lot of fans who are disgruntled with TPTB over how VOY was handled, but I loved the finale and hated this book. Maybe Homecoming will be better.

I really love it when they make a book out from an episode! We can really read the reaction of a character inside is head, what we are missing on television. I loved the book from the pilot episode, from "Day of Honor" and the final episode! And the bonus part where we can read more about the reunion of the crew with there family! The show finish too adruply but the book help us a lot!

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Portrayal of the TV Episode, July 2, 2001
By
A Real Trekkie (Federation HQ, Alpha Quadrant) - See all my reviews

It's a really great book and is very precise with the details from the show. It actually gives more detail than the episode. Highly Reccomended if you haven't seen the real episode (I saw the episode after I read the book) If you have seen the real thing, don't bother buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Star Trek Voyager:Endgame, February 24, 2006
This review is from: Endgame (Star Trek Voyager) (Paperback)
I thought this book was just as good as the television episode. It gave you a better perspective on Janeway and what was going through her head at the time of the Borg Queen's death. I would highly recommend this book to any Star Trek Fan!

4.0 out of 5 stars Is it the End or the Beginning, January 2, 2004
By
"zonajon" (Glendale, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Endgame (Star Trek Voyager) (Paperback)
First off, I will tell you that I am a big Star Trek Fan. I have seen every episode of TNG and DS9 and just about every episode of Voyager (with the exception of Endgame). I was out of the country when it came on and I have never caught it in syndication. Thus, Endgame was an important book for me. I purchased the Ebook from Amazon and read it in less than 1 day.

The book starts out 26 years from Voyager's being catapulted by the Caretaker from the Alpha Quadrant. "Admiral" Janeway sends herself back in time (with a little help from her friends) to their seventh year in the Delta Quadrant. After much debate as to whether or not Captain Janeway (the same person 20 years earlier) should take the admiral's recommended course of action, the admiral and the captain compromise suiting both personalities. Of course, the end is fairly easy to predict, although the journey is definitely interesting.

The detail was great. The explanation of the interpersonal relationships was very good. There should have been more borg interaction. The lack of borg participation makes it very unbelievable that it was that easy to defeat them in battle. I guess what I am saying is -- more action less drama would have been nice.

The ebook comes with a three (3) chapter preview of Homecoming. A nice bonus and ready to download the next book.

My only gripe with Endgame (and Star Trek in general) is time travel in the star trek universe is becoming a bit overused. It's a little too convenient - and becomes an all too easy way of overcoming problems.

Enjoy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Star Trek Voyager: Endgame, June 17, 2002
By
LAW (NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Endgame (Star Trek Voyager) (Paperback)
If you saw the series finale of Voyager, "Endgame," on television, no need to read this book. It offers very little insight beyond the television show itself. This book is somewhat disappointing when compared to Diane Carey's other works, for it lacks her usual wonderfully detailed description of characters and setting (e.g., "Star Trek Voyager: The Captain's Table - Book #4). The book also has one too many typos of toleration. The best aspect of the book is its four chapter excerpt of the upcoming book and continuing adventure of Voyager's crew, "Homecoming."
