Even Better Than The First "The Endless Jam"!,
By highway_star (Hallandale, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Endless Jam Continues (Audio CD)
"The Endless Jam Continues" is even better than the first "The Endless Jam" released in 2004. Michael Schenker's guitar playing on these classic rock songs is awesome, he truely is one of rock's best (and underrated) guitarists. Again you've got Davey Pattison on vocals (known for his work in Robin Trower's band), Aynsley Dunbar on drums (he's been with just about everybody), and surprise, Tim Bogert (of Vanilla Fudge, Cactus and Beck-Bogert & Appice) on bass guitar. They do great covers of Bad Company's "Rock Steady", The Beatles "While My Guitar Gentley Weeps", Robin Trower's "Too Rolling Stoned", Derek & The Domino's "Laya", Rod Stewart's "I'm Losing You", Free's "The Hunter", Cream's "Badge", Humble Pie's "I Don't Need No Doctor", Traffic's "Dear Mr. Fantasy", Savoy Brown's "Wang Dang Doodle" and Ten Years After's "I'd Love To Change The World". If you liked the first "The Endless Jam" you'll like this even better. Crank It Up And Enjoy!

Splendid Schenker,

This is a great album. Much better produced then the previous one. And you will get loads of that typical Schenker sound. What a great guitarplayer he is. The outro solo on "While my guitar gently weeps" makes the purchase worthwhile by itself.
The vocals by Pattison and the backing section is also great. But my God what a guitar player Schenker is. One of a kind!!!

I agree with other reviewers that this is nothing new, but I must say this is a very well done tribute to some great bands and great songs. Bogert and Dunbar do a fine job laying down a Rock solid bottom and the vocals by Pattison are very well done. Kevin Curry deserves a lot of credit for his Guitar work on this project, he provides a polished canvas for Schneker's fancy fretwork.
It Rocks.

For some reason, the word that keeps coming to mind to describe this album is TASTEFUL. From the song selection, which is better than the last, to the the better than average fit of Pattison's vocals to any of the individual songs, to Schenker's almost unique ability to provide "better than the original" guitar work without destroying the character of the original songs, I stand in awe. For the first fifteen years it seemed Schenker consistently produced albums with songs that gave me goosebumps - his guitar work has always been awesome, but the songwriting seemed to have slipped. He may have found a niche here, picking basically sound cover tunes, and supercharging them. My favorite is "I'm Losing You", but the boogie in "The Hunter", makes it a close second. I should also mention that Kevin Curry does a nice job with the rhythm guitar on this album.

Schenker's Complete Mastery of the Electric Guitar,
By
This review is from: Endless Jam Continues (Audio CD)
I haven't got time just now to properly review this album. Let me just say, though, that recently me and a few friends were driving through the Welsh countryside and we were playing this album at the time. I remember being completely blown away by Michael Schenker's guitar-soloing on While My Guitar Gently Weeps and exclaiming - 'that was the best guitar-soloing I have ever heard'. I am not unfamiliar with the great technicians - such as Jeff Kollman, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, and others. Schenker, though, reaches down into the soul with the harrowing beauty of his playing. To paraphrase Wittgenstein, 'technique only shows when genius fades'. Well, in Endless Jam and Endless Jam continues, Schenker's genius reasserts itself - as I suspect it always will, to the end of his days!

The best electric guitar solo work in my collection. Schenker demonstrates absolute mastery of the instrument, especially on tracks 2 and 4. Definitely buy this album.

but why is Schenker doing covers every other album. These guys really didn't jam together either. Davey Pattison has a great voice (check out some Gamma & later Trower records) & you can't go wrong with Dunsbar on the skins, but why not put out some original material? I'm sure Bogert and Pattison must have had a few dozen songs, half-songs, partial songs lying around somewhere that they could have brought to life. Putting out 1 cover record was one thing, but doing a 2nd was just laziness on Schenker's (and the others) part.

the best Schenker yet!!!!!!!
the version of Layla brought tears to my eyes !! the riffs and the lead break are more prominent on this then the original, i kid you not ! Too Rolling Stoned is also great. But Layla i can't stop listining to it, especially the piano interlude. The first Schenbker Pattison was great but this really hits the nail on the head! Buy this !!! |
