5.0 out of 5 stars Wildly fun party game!
I've had this game for years and can't wait until I can buy copies for friends. The rules are very simple -- a team rolls the die and chooses a card. The card will have a word, such as "blue." Someone on that team would have to sing part of a song that has the word blue in it (e.g., don't you step on my blue suede shoes).. Then the next team would have to...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good concept, poor execution
The idea is fun. I played with 6 people.
When you land on different spots on the board they'll have special 1 on 1 challenges. We eventually just ignored those, because there were too many of them and it's more fun when everyone gets to play.
The board itself is kind of daftly designed, because it's difficult to see the game pieces or the direction you're...

Someone on that team would have to sing part of a song that has the word blue in it (e.g., don't you step on my blue suede shoes).. Then the next team would have to sing part of another song with the word blue in it (I'll have a blue Christmas without you...), and so on, until a team can't think of another song with blue in it. Then a new word gets chosen. It's great for kids and adults, an excellent mixer to liven up a party.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game, depending who you play with, June 28, 2000

The premis for this game is intruiging and fun -- to be able to come up with a song that has lyrics that use words identified by the game.

The reason I gave the game 4 stars, however, is that I had an awful experience the first time I played the game. Here's the scoop...the group I played with included my father-in-law (a country music singer) and young brother-in-law (a rap fan). They repeatedly claimed and sang songs and tunes I had never heard of. I'm not saying that any cheating went on, but I was so far out of the loop about the songs they were choosing that there was no way to tell who was winning and who was losing. Well, OK, I was losing.

This can be a fun game if played with your musical peers. It can be a major disaster otherwise.

I hope this insight helps someone out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Encore Really Sings!!, September 6, 2001

This great fun-for-all-ages game is not only exciting--it really makes you think! One's mind has to be sharp to remember lyrics to songs in just a few seconds. Music appreciation increases with all players too.

I encourage music lovers to try this game with family and friends. Try it, and you'll see how exciting and challenging this game is--especially in the challenge round!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game (if you understand the rules), December 8, 1999

If I understand the rules of Encore correctly, It's a cross between volley ball and the use of any song lyrics stuck in your grey matter between your ears. The rules are my only problem. They were vague and littered with type-o's. What is that yellow block on the bottom for anyhow? The directions don't say! It's a category, but for what? Besides that, 3 players on a team is great and after the game is started everyone loosens up and sings what they can remember. You don't have to know any trivia, just what you listen to. The only hard time you'll have (beside making up some rules) is convincing the other team that that obscure song that only you know is real. If you want a KILLER party game, splurge on Cranium. It's worth it.

Encore is absolutely my favorite game of all time. It is wonderful to play with family, friends, at parties, etc... if you can sing, you can play! (Well, even if you can't sing, you have fun trying!) I recommend this game for anyone ages 9-99. It really encourages a healthy competitive spirit while at the same time providing hours of genuine fun.

This game is so much fun at a party. It gets everyone involved and it makes you think fast. As many people as there are can play. It's my favorite game and everyone who I've introduced it to loves it too.

This game is really very fun. The first time i played it i ended up staying up all night i had so much fun. It doesn't matter if the people like different kinds of music either because you just have to think of a song for a specific word. I highly recomend it for anyone who likes music at all

My family LOVES this game. You never know where your inspiration will come from; in my house we've gone from Sinatra to Dead Kennedys to vacation bible school songs. You spend as much time laughing as singing! Forget musical talent! As long as you know the words and can closely approximate the tune, you're golden.

We bought this game about eight years ago through Parker Brothers. I wish there was an additional set of cards. We've played it so many times we've completely run out of words, so we've begun to make up our own. The next day after playing this game you'll be humming or thinking about a tune and say "Oh! I could have used that song in the game!"

We've played this for years. The best part is that people of ANY age can play, and be valuable contributors to their team's success. Imagine grandpa the classical cellist, college daughter the mezzo-soprano, mom the 6o's rock n roller, college son the hip-hopper, and grade school nephew representing Disney radio. It's a blast.
