used this for my first-year medical physiology class and got a ton out of it. read it cover-to-cover in about 2 days, stayed awake thru it, understood everything, and did fantastic on our professor's exam. i found it very readable with linear reasoning and all the other goodies (schematics, vignettes, etc) that make for a good textbook (as opposed to a reference book). i will never have trouble remembering all about addison's and cushing's after this

it might be a little too in-depth for Step 1 review, but with how fast i was able to read thru it, i'm def gonna keep it in case i want a solid refresher next year

can't recommend this book enough. i'm a believer in the whole Mosby series after using this one

I'm in medical school and I found this to be an excellent book because of how well it aided my understanding. I went with 4 stars because it could be improved by eliminating some confusing redundancy and a handfull of significant typos. It's not for you if you are looking for a thorough discourse addressing the primary literature (research papers), but it presents the info in an easily-understood manner. Our physiology book to this point has been Guyton and Hall's Text. of Med. Phys., which is too heavy on the research for me, especially considering all the other reading I have to do, so this Mosby book was refreshing. this is a pretty lengthy book on the subject. probably gets into some details that arent necessary for the usmle. i used it a lot while studying endocrine physiology during physio in med school but am not using it for board review.

it has questions at the end of each chapter, however they are not usmle style. it's well written and has lots of good diagrams/flow charts
